Problem with Avast Internet Security and Windows 8
« on: May 11, 2012, 07:17:13 PM »
In Windows 8 there are some apps and the Firewall won't let the Store app function.
I have to turn the Firewall off for 10 minutes if I want to use the Store.

I have tried adding the Store but am apparently not doing something right.

Can anyone tell me how they got the Store past the Firewall?

I'm pretty sure that has been reported (and acknowledged) a few times, been that way since the DP of 8.  All the team said is it will be fixed by the time Win8 releases.   Pretty sure there is a beta coming soon, it will likely get hammered out with that update.

Just curious.  When you say Store app are you referring the "Merchandise" section of the main GUI? I am using W8-CP and I am not having any problems with this working properly.   If not, what are you referring to when you say Store app?   Thanks

Okay, after playing around with my AVAST Firewall settings, I finally got it to work with the apps. Go to your Firewall tab and click Firewall settings. Then click Expert setting in the top right area. Under the Policies tab (first screen) enable Internet Connection Sharing Mode. THAT'S IT!!! it will let you access the network for your apps, without having to disable your firewall for xx amount of minutes. The cool thing, if you're like me and don't want other users to access your skydrive or other apps, just simply uncheck the Internet Connection Sharing and it will block the apps again.  =)
