ON ACCESS SCANNER
« on: December 22, 2004, 07:43:01 PM »
OUTLOOK/EXPRESS THEME

I have a message that reads:

"The Provider is waiting for a Subsystem to Start"

What does this mean... what am I doing wrong?

On XP, and have loaded 4.5 Home Addition

Did you restarted your machine after you have installed avast! ?
This is usually the reason for this error, but it might be something else...

Is Internet Mail provider started? (Start button should be grayed out and provider icon should be colorful).

You might also wanna try this:
Go to Add-Remove Programs, select avast! and use Repair function (scroll down the installer menu).
Maybe this will help. I hope.

Gerrard, are you refering to MS Outlook/Exchange plugin or, on contrary, Internet Mail provider?
Which provider is waiting for a subsystem to start?

If you are talking about the outlook/exchange provider then it will only start if you have outlook running.

So run outlook, you will see that the message has changed to running.

It is perfectly normal.

If you dont use outlook then you can terminate this provider.

Gerard,

I think what everyone here is trying to tell you is that the module in the On Access Protection Console that reads Outlook is for Microsoft Outlook Exchange NOT Outlook Express.

OE uses the Internet Mail module.  As long as you have the other modules running (Standard/Internet/P2P/IM), then you are fine.  If you do not use P2P, then you can uninstall it to speed things up a bit.

Thanks.... the exact misunderstanding I had. I am now only running the internet mail module. The mention of "Exchange" had me thinking of Outlook Exchange.

Thanks kindly for ALL remarks.

Merry Christmas

Check if the avast plugin is not disabled into MS Outlook:

Outlook 2003 > Help > About > Disabled items
Outlook 2000 > Tools menu > Options > Other > Advanced Options > Add-In Manager
