I have been unable to connect to the internet since I ran Avast Scan on boot up.  I initially installed Avast and scanned my machine and it identified and removed a bunch of stuff.  Then it suggested that I run some sort of scan upon boot up (don't remember the exact terminology).  I ran the scan and after the scan I wasn't able to connect to the internet...I then uninstalled Avast with no change in my connectivity situation.  I have been through about a zillion different diagnostics that these guys have helped me with but my problem is that I can't connect to the internet.

I have other machines at my house that connect fine.  This machine has both wired and wireless access, however as part of the troubleshooting we tried to uninstall my network adapter and have been unable to reinstall (because my machine is now on windows 7 and the driver that I have [which I tried to reinstall was an XP driver]).  We haven't found one to work with windows 7.  Regardless, I have a wireless network connection that shows is connecting to my router but not to the internet.

I appreciate any help you can provide.

Not sure what you mean.  I am not creating a new thread, just responding to the question that was asked.  I've had multiple folks trying to help me.

Can you remember what the infection was perchance ?  Was it zero access/sirfef

Could you run OTL with this custom scan, although be advised with this type of problem we have only been able to fix about 25% of the affected systems (on my other forum )

Copy/paste the following to the custom scan/fixes box and press run quick scan:

HKCR\CLSID\{F3130CDB-AA52-4C3A-AB32-85FFC23AF9C1} /rs
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\NetSh /64 /s
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\NetSh /s

Will try but probably can't get this done until I am home later this evening.  What is the resolution in the other 75%...reinstalling Windows 7 or whatever OS you are running?

Unfortunately yes..  We found that the malware was messing with the network settings in different places every time and the changes were minute but enough to kill the network

OK as far as I can see from reading the whole thread the registry/files and protocols are correct.  I fear you are one of the 25%

Sorry I could not give better news

Hi,

@Megadude

Why do you say ComboFix is a serious choice?  Do you know about it?

Indeed, I do.
ComboFix is a serious matter, you should not use it unless there are no other way to repair and you absolutely know what you're doing. Like all heavy medications, ComboFix has side effects too. It affects some windows core services that are impossible to return to their original state. In addition to that, some software would stop working after using combofix.
---
I see the problem still exists. Although my very same problem was fixed using Winsockfix, I remember I could still connect to the internet while using a third party anonymizer called Cproxy which is available to download for free via cproxy.com
with cproxy you can temporarily regain access to the internet at 32kps until a  stable solution is found.
perhaps you could contact "winsockxpfix" developers and ask if there is any version for win7.

That also seems to be correct

Download Complete Internet Repair to your desktop

Unzip all the files to their own folder on the desktop
Within the folder double click CIntRep
The programme will then run
Select all  the items
Press go
Let me know if it is able to conduct the repair, there is a log available under the view tab please post that log

Complete Internet Repair solved all my issues.  It took me hours to find a solution!  I was ready to give up.  This was a nightmare!!

Thanks for the solution! :)
