Enabling File System Shield makes Chrome browsing SLOW
« on: May 19, 2012, 10:48:57 PM »
Enabling File System Shield slows down Chrome Beta in the following way. Upon entering a URL in the omnibox and pressing enter, a delay of 5 seconds or so is experienced.  There are no delays after clicking links, however.

Disabling File System Shield removes this problem so I've disabled it for now. Any idea why?

Leave the file system shield on and try disabling the web shield as that is the shield which would have a direct interaction with web browsing.

The file system shield doesn't monitor/scan web traffic, so I don't know why there would be any slowdown.

Have (or did) you another Anti-Virus installed in this system, if so what was it and how did you get rid of it ?

Have you just installed avast ?

What other security applications do you have installed, firewall, anti-spyware, etc. ?
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.3.6108 (build 24.3.8975.762) UI 1.0.801/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

Wow, fast response. I'm running OS X 10.7.4. I had Sophos installed and ran it's official uninstaller a week ago or so. Installed Avast shortly thereafter. No other security apps. I hadn't noticed this phenomenon until just recently, however.

Enabling or disabling Web Shield causes no change in speed with File System Shield On. Slow either way. It's only File System Shield that's causing the problem w/ Chrome Beta. It does not cause this problem with Safari 5.x or Firefox 13.x.

Is there a log available or some other means to diagnose this?

You probably get answers going here to this link : http://support.google.com/chrome/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=95672
and then for the nerds go: chrome://memory-redirect/

Here is the Mac forum -> http://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=5.0

Maybe there will be someone there with the same problem that you are having.

Thanks. I've posted this link in the Mac Forum: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=98573.0

Perhaps this thread should be closed if it's not the right place for it.

BTW, even going to chrome://memory-redirect/ causes a 5 second delay and it's local. ;)
