Mail won't sent e-mails (iCloud account)
« on: June 04, 2012, 03:26:02 PM »
Hello,

I have installed newest Avast on my Mac (latest OS X Lion). All is working fine except e-mails. I can receive them fine (removed SSL), but I cannot sent them through my iCloud SMTP server.

Is there some easy solution?

Thanks

avast! for mac does not handle outgoing mail traffic (SMTP) in any way, so you probably broke sending mails when you have tried to "configure" it. Revert all SMTP related configuration that you have added/modified and all should start working again.

Weird.

Basically if I just uncheck SSL in Mail and leave everything else be, Mail will receive e-mails (and Avast will control them), but it won't sent them (it shows iCloud (offline) in outgoing Mail settings). After I switch Avast Mail shield off, all works again.

I will check if Mail will sent mails if I will leave SSL on (in other words not changing any setting at all and leaving Avast Mail Shield on - it should tell me it cannot control mails due to SSL connection, but Mail should still sent e-mails just fine) in around hour when I get home and will let you know.

Tested and you were partially right.

Because Mail using iCloud account won't sent mails at all with SSL unchecked, no matter if Avast Mail Shield is on or off.

All in all I have to leave Avast Mail Shield off, it won't work with iCloud atm.

Maybe it's for the best, turning off SSL scares me anyway.  ;)

Avast will still check attachments after the mail is downloaded even without Mail Shield anyway right? Just not during "downloading process".
