I understand your feelings and it's a catch 22.  avast! ver. 7 is the product that is rated #2 now, and NOT version 6.  So I understand the concept of the push to version 7 by Avast Software, as they are trying to give us the best protection they can.

And yes, it scares me when the push occurs.  However, all of this WAS in your control, as the reseller, to configure the program updates to manual (especially on servers)

The default of auto updates is a necessity for most users, because they will NEVER do any update.  I discuss this issue with my clients. I tell them the truth.

I understand that it's always a compromise, it's the nature of the beast.

That being said, if an administrator enables program updates, it should be for minor version changes to the client.  A major release version shouldn't be pushed out automatically.  If there were more configuration options to specify update control for minor & major versions differently, that would help the situation.

unfortunately, we are not able to change the behavior of the "old" products
Anyway, your comments are valid and we should discuss these changes for next versions.
