exit/kill avast
« on: June 01, 2012, 10:52:08 PM »
Hi,

Can someone tell me how to exit out of Avast, or kill the processes? Everytime I try to stop the processes in Task Manager it says access denied. Is there an "Exit" option anywhere? I don't want to uninstall it as it is a work computer.

Thanks,

Andrew

of course it will......that is exactly how malware will try to disable it.   ;)

why do you want to kill it?

if you right click tray icon you can pause shields.....

Pause shields doesn't do what I need. I want all 3rd party processes stopped on my computer to find out what is causing a speed issue. Guess I'll be removing it from the system.

You'd have to disable the avast! self-defense from the troubleshooting page first, then stop the service(s) - via service manager, not Task Manager, and then kill the UI process in Task Manager.
But if the shields are stopped, the program is not doing anything, so it certainly shouldn't slow down the machine in any way.
