You can get ver 6 from Filehippo
here. Download the file to desktop but do not run it. Uninstall ver. 7 through control panel's add/remove, then run the awsclear in safe mode. Next, disconnect from the Internet and try installing ver 6. If you get a notice that it's not the latest and it wants to install the latest ver 7, then stop the install and change your PC's date to 2011. Then install ver 6. After it's finally installed, change ver. 6 settings to manual program update and your choice on engine and virus definition update (I use auto on that).
This has worked for a number of users and hope it works for you. I've been a fan of avast for about 5 years... since ver. 4, but will now stay at ver 6 for as long as it is supported. Many have said that the "Chrome" install is offered only as a choice, but that's not entirely true. Some have reported never seeing a choice box to click on, others say it's too fast and continues the install of Chrome.
