long first scan

on my tech's advice, I signed up for avast, dumped all my old security systems and am scanning my pc for the first time. It's taking WAY long (24 hours and counting) but I have an external 3TB drive about 2/3 full. Is Avast scanning THAT drive as well? I thought i had to select external drives before thety were scanned.

Is it plugged in ?

You can exclude the external drive by accessing settings
