BSOD - SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION caused by aswSP.SYS
« on: June 10, 2012, 09:04:17 PM »
While I was digging in my Minidump folder in the Windows directory I found two .dmp files that was generated in the event of BSOD. I got both of them one in a row, at the same day, and they were cause by the aswSP.SYS driver, and most likely the ntoskrnl.exe

Went ahead and uploaded them to SendSpace so the avast! team can analyse it, and check if there are any problems or it's just for me. For now everything seems to be working fine, I just report them just in case someone else has got these crashes and hasn't reported yet! I am using Windows 7 SP1 64bit and avast! free edition 7.0.1426.

Filename: minidump_files.zip (58.18KB)
CRC32: E8CB004D
MD5: 030FFEE28ED151E50F6A85F0DA78274B
SHA-1: F008D0CA951ABA8572C96A627AB1B84B276D6C59

Upload the zip file to the ftp server ftp://ftp.avast.com/incoming:
- Using Windows Explorer, Connect to the link and drag the file into the Right pane and drop it, that starts the upload, you don't have read access to this folder.
Or
- Upload it using the Run command-line in Windows: Windows Key + R (to get the run box), copy and paste this explorer ftp://ftp.avast.com/incoming and drag the file into the window, from another explorer window.

Give the zip file you are uploading a unique name (e.g. forumusername-mem-dump.zip, etc), so they can identify it. It might not be a bad idea to create a text file (readme.txt) with any relevant information, avast topic URL, user name, etc. etc. in the zip file. Not to mention posting the name of the file you uploaded in the topic acts as another searchable reference.

####
Excuse me if I'm teaching your granny to suck eggs:
- Create your zip file with the unique name, containing the dump files and the readme.txt file, before you even consider connection to the ftp location explorer ftp://ftp.avast.com/incoming. You do not have read permissions on the explorer ftp://ftp.avast.com/incoming location, so you won't see it has been uploaded.

Now you make your first windows explorer connection to the ftp link explorer ftp://ftp.avast.com/incoming, now open another explorer window where you locate your unique zip file containing the dump and readme.txt files; drag and drop that file into the other explorer window (right hand side), no need to click enter or any other action.

Am I looking that stupid? I don't think that I am a newbie, because I did knew that it's a problem with the avast! self protection module. Also I did know where to look for the minidumps. It's way easy to register for an account on a smf forum and making an ftp connection is a piece of cake. Even posted hashes for the .zip file, for data integrity checks, so I don't know what made you think that I'm a computer amature.

I'm pretty sure that the someone from the dev team will take a look at the topic, but I did uploaded the files to the server. Please don't treat me as a newbie, and there's no need to explain several times on how to upload a file to an ftp server.

Was anyone calling you stupid, in fact the opposite given my comment "Excuse me if I'm teaching your granny to suck eggs" as I have zero idea of anyone's experience when they first post.

The point of giving you the avast ftp location is that it is right there at avast! and doesn't require that a developer happens to notice your post.

No but I assume that, because you post the same message for every single person who posts some useful information for helping the developers debug the software. Judging by the amount of post you made on the avast! forums seems absurd for me, and most likely you just skimmed my message anyway. One short sentence would have been enough for me stating that I should upload it to the ftp server. After the part where you made excuses you still mentioned the same stuff as that you mentioned already, which seems very strange for me.

I'm sorry that you assumed that. But those trying to help can't make assumptions on the users experience and how much information to give.

There's a difference between "can't make an assumption" and "don't make an assumption". I would have preferred a short sentence instead of a already written text, because you were to lazy enough to write one. I've seen on the forum the same post you made for someone else, and you just used your Ctrl+V for my topic too... Am I correct? It's ok, I'm just saying... I expect from from an old veteran member who helps people to at least post different information for them, and not just paste some of his own stuff caring about his post counter...

No offense, I think I did posted a proper report and not some partial information, and I did think that it looks like a post from an experienced user. Now I'm interested if it's a real problem in avast! or it's just my machine, that a reinstallation of Windows can fix easily...

I had this problem a while.. back.. I just removed avast for a while.. and downgraded to old version 6.. than like few weeks later tried a update to avast 7 again.. and what do you know it worked and so far no crashes. but I'm not giving up the thought it might not. I know that some of the members on the forum might remember posting in my topic it about it. hmm

I think the version i downgraded to was http://filehippo.com/download_avast_antivirus/10163/

Can we at least get to the core of the problem instead of fighting with each other? This topic is full of Evangelist members, and the only contributing post was made by Coolmario88. He is the only one who doesn't care about his post counter, so big thank you for him. If we are the only persons who got these crashes, it could be a real potential avast! bug that needs to be fixed, or some solution or workaround needs to be made. If it's hard to reproduce this it's definitely a good thing that I saved these minidumps and reported them, just in case you wouldn't believe us. I'm not getting the crashes either, so it's rare when it happens. I ran Memtest86+ and my memory modules are fine, both of them works as it should be.

I want avast! to be as bug free and stable as possible, and that's why I told the community. A lot of people doesn't even report these kinds of bugs which is a shame. If you guys have any more information on this issue please let me know, I am not interested in offtopic stuff that doesn't even belong here...
Thank you! Have a nice day!

Well, Dave gave you the info you needed. It was certainly not him, who started this useless chit-chat. ::)

Oh god another avast! evangelist... Do other regular people use this forum? If Dave is that awesome, he would right along upload the files to the ftp server for me and saving all the hassle. Besides that the first sentence of him would have been more than enough for me. Quote: "Upload the zip file to the ftp server ftp://ftp.avast.com/incoming" It's like you tell a brain surgeon how to operate a brain tumor. Except you tell that for a sysadmin how to upload stuff to a server. I even posted hashes for the file, that not many people do these days.

Also if you point your finger at me, then I'm not the only one who continued the war! Coolmario88 is the only one who shared his problem and the only evangelist member who doesn't bash me! So thanks buddy you are awesome! If anyone have some more additional information on this problem I would appreciate it. I need help and not a judge other people. So yeah, as I said before logical explanations are always welcome!

I'm still trying to figure out the logic. ???
You asked a question, received an answer and then proceeded to bash the person giving you the answer....
I simply can't figure out the logic in that ??? ???
