I choose to have Flash notify me when an update is available rather than letting it update automatically which could occur at an inconvenient time. I just go to their download center and get the update and I never worry about uninstalling the old one for two reasons. There are never more than the latest and the most recent version present on my system ( any others seem to get automatically removed) and the older one being there poses no risk since it's not being used any more.
