OA-Guard scans all the time
« on: June 19, 2012, 11:29:12 AM »
Hello everyone.

I´m currently testing avast pro 7 (evaluation license) on my pc (win7 ultimate/ x64). Unfortunately i have encountered a problem with the on-access-guard.

I noticed that the real time guard permanently scans files and folders which were not opened or executed by myself. Even when i don´t work on my pc it scans all the time and doesn´t stop. So the result is a high cpu-usage and the hard-disk is busy, too.

It seems that there is a hidden background on-demand-scan working (or something like that). But i can´t find anything in the settings to turn this off.

Do you have any ideas?

Thanks in advance,

Best regards
Ricard

Yes you´re right. I mean the file system shield, which scans permanently random files and folders even if i don´t do anything on my pc.  I´ve currently no other security related software installed.  It is a clean windows partition.

It is the latest version that i´ve got from the automatic update system yesterday. I´ve no exact numbers at the moment because i´m not at home  :(
But i can tell you the current version later.

1. Download avast! Pro Antivirus: http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_pro_antivirus_setup.exe
2. Follow instructions: http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed avast! versions..!!)
3. Reinstall avast! with the downloaded installer from point 1.
4. Reboot.

@Asyn

Thanks a lot for your help! I followed your instructions but unfortunately the problem still exists. The same goes for disabling the automatic rootkit-scan. Nothing´s changed  :(

Kind regards
Ricard

1. Which programs are running, when this occurs..?? Any downloads/streams/torrents..?? Is your machine clean..??
2. Please explain, not sure what you mean.

Hi!
1.) That´s the strange fact, because it occurs even if no program is running. No downloads, no streams, no open applications. After booting the real time shield scans permanently. When I look into the statistic section it shows various files and folders which are scanned. This doesn´t stop for hours.

2.) I guessed that enabling the automatic rootkit scan (while booting) could be problem, but it wasn´t.

As promised, I´ve installed the latest beta version yesterday but that didn´t fix the problem, too. So finally I may have to give up  :(

Ricard

You could maybe check your autostart what programs and services are running at windows startup.

DJBone
Win10 x64, APS (always latest version)
Avast Mobile Security (always latest version)
