aswSP.SYS+10265 (BSOD)
« on: June 18, 2012, 04:37:06 AM »
I verified a crash to my computer that has happened twice now. The first was not able to create the dump file, but the second time was a success.
This was caused by the aswSP.SYS driver at aswSP.SYS+10265. The crash address at ntoskrnl.exe+70040.
Is there a way in which I can prevent this from happening?
My system has been running very slow recently and has not recovered.

*
I have not installed anything on my system through the main OS recently, most programs installed are through my virtual desktop application which is also running
with Avast free anti virus. The virtual desktop has not received any errors and continues to run fine.

On my main desktop I have disabled the Auto Sandbox due to its extremely intrusive process termination of "suspicions" files. Could this be a reason to any cause to the system crash?
I also have this disabled on my VM and it continues to run perfectly fine.

Programs I have running in the background are the following:
Google Drive.
Dropbox.
Tt eSports Challenger Pro.
Intel Rapid Storage Technology.
uTorrent.
Virtue MVP control panel.
Nvidia control panel.
VMWare. (currently kept off)
Team Viewer.
Steam.
Windows gadget Network Meter.
Windows gadget Core Temp.
Windows gadget HTC clock.
Core Temp.
Real Temp.
Avast!

The PC is very new, recently built. I have been using a old Seagate Barracuda 7200PM 6MB Cache that has had problems in my previous system (the drive tends to slow down significantly). The hard drive is soon going to be replaced with a Solid State Drive.
I have also included a image of the dump file properties read under Blue Screen View. (Please include larger file size upload, the measly amount supported is too small for most files.)

- Upload any minidump or memory.dmp files, zipped to reduce size.  Give the zip file you are uploading a unique name (e.g. forumusername-mem-dump.zip, etc), so they can identify it. It might not be a bad idea to create a text file (readme.txt) with any relevant information, avast topic URL, user name, etc. etc. in the zip file. Not to mention posting the name of the file you uploaded in the topic, this acts as another searchable reference.

Upload the zip file to the ftp server ftp://ftp.avast.com/incoming, no read permissions:
I'm not sure if this has been corrected in the current beta trial version 7.0.1442, presumably you aren't running that version ?

The aswSP.sys is the Self-Defence (self protection) module, you could try disabling that and see if it makes any difference.

I am currently using version 7.0.1426.
I would upload the dmp file to ftp://ftp.avast.com/, but the web interface provides no way to upload files and this doesn't look like a place to upload files to. Horrifically basic with only two folders that re route me back to the start of the webpage. Wouldn't it have been easier if i was able to just simply zip the file and upload it here if there wasn't such a strict amount of allowed data to upload, as this is Avast support?

I'll give it a spin.

OK, please report back.

The crashes have only happened at very random times, never a trigger or pattern. Can take some time to occur, or the beta may just fix things.

@ Nevin
Two methods to upload:
- Using Windows Explorer, Connect to the link and drag the file into the Right pane and drop it, that starts the upload, you don't have read access to this folder.
Or
- Upload it using the Run command-line in Windows: Windows Key + R (to get the run box), copy and paste this explorer ftp://ftp.avast.com/incoming and drag the file into the window, from another explorer window.

But as mentioned, you could try the beta build if you accept the usual issue involved in beta testing on a live system, possibly not a good idea without a backup and recovery strategy.
