system mechanic issue
« on: April 11, 2011, 01:42:29 PM »
hi,
don't know if anyone can help with this but.......
I have run Avast free and system mechanic on my system for a few years with no issues, however a week or so ago i went to run system mechanic and it came up with "invalid floating point operation" and then doesn't load. I contacted Iolo and they asked if i ran Avast which i do. they asked me to disable it, but the same issue happened. I then uninstalled sytem mechanic and re installed. same problem. they then asked me to uninstall Avast which i did and System mechanic then loaded fine. i then re installed Avast and same problem happens again. Iolo say it is Avast stopping System mechanic working. my confusion is why has this only happened recently. I don't particularly want to get another AV prog as Avast has served me well but system mchanic has helped keep my system running pretty well.
So has anyone got any answers??
Someone in Avast must be aware of this issue.
Thanks in Advance
Paul

My neighbor just had the same problem when trying to reinstall System Mechanic. He called Iolo and they only recommended he uninstall Avast and get another anti virus program.

I am getting the same issue with System Mechanic Professional v10.  Avast and SM have always worked fine together, then I updated Avast! Free edition to version 6.0.1125, and now I get the "Invalid Floating Point Operation" error when I try to load System Mechanic.  I contacted Iolo and they said there is a compatability issue with Avast! version 6, and that I should contact Avast! for a solution or go back to an earlier version of Avast!  Anyone working on a fix for this?  I too like Avast! and don't want to have to switch antivirus programs!  Thanks!

The only tool you should need to keep your system running well is ccleaner and a desent defragmenter but the new beta should also solve your problem http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=80315.msg658226#msg658226

Any attempts to solve this issue???  Looks like this isn't the only conflict with other software caused by the Avast! Free 6.0 upgrade!

It appears that System Mechanic also doesn't place nice with with Avg and ZoneAlarm

The program.....has problems recognizing some antivirus programs such as AVG and ZoneAlarm.

Same issue with System Mechanic and Avast.  In fact, Avast has affected several programs.  Example: Chrome does not open unless I uninstall Avast including Avast references in my Registry.  I like both programs very much, but System Mechanic also has Virus protection.  Therefore, I am going to delete Avast until I hear that they have resolved this problem.  My email address is GFGriffin@msn.com if anyone hears of a solution.  Thanks.

System Mechanic is known to not get along with other AV's as well ( not just avast ) http://download.cnet.com/System-Mechanic-Free/3000-18512_4-10030183.html i also see no information anywhere stating that System Mechanic has virus protection ??? so i wouldn't be going without an AV if i were you.
Google Chrome does function with avast as it is also included with the avast install if you choose to have it so im thinking you have probably got more problems on your system than a simple conflict.

Wow, a tuneup and registry cleaner is also going to be in charge of protecting your system from infections of all types ???
Wonder who's virus data base Iolo is using ???  ;D

That is a very peculiar statement you have made in regard to chrome considering avast gives the option to install chrome with avast..it would very counter productive of avast to give an option to install a browser which is incompatible with avast dont you think.?

System mechanic like most of these cleaners are pure snake oil.
only ccleaner and a defragger is needed to keep your system in shape.
The rest are a joke in my personal opinion. 8)
