Residential protection
« on: November 01, 2006, 08:59:55 PM »
Fore the first 4 week  Avast worked really well but now when I boot up it takes 2 minutes for the Resident protection to activate.
I get a small red circle in the bottom right hand corner of the Avast icon in the tool bar which stays there for two minutes during which time my computer freezes. ??? ???
I am running on windows XP sp2 and IE7

I have tried repairing and reinstalling Avast
I thought it could of been a firewall problem so I uninstalled Norton firewall

Theses did not help so I thought I would ask for some external help

  • If at first you don’t succeed; call it version 1.0

Before testing further, please, follow:

1) Remove Symantec products through Add/Remove programs from Control Panel. Boot.
2) Use Symantec removal tool following the three steps defined in the SymNRT tool info or here.
3) Boot.
4) Install avast! Boot.
5) See what you get.

Yes I have read that thread and it seams to me that it is far wider problem than I thought ??? ???

I think that the only real way around it is for avast to put out some sort of patch  ::)before a lot of us migrate to AVG.

I will give it one month before I migrate  :'(

I don't think the problem is on avast.
Sorry, but it's well known that Symantec products left trash behind and mess all the computer.
You'll lose avast if you migrate... Hope you luck.  :)
