frustrating ghost tabs
« on: April 01, 2009, 07:16:48 PM »
I had this problem since i built the system, but it had gone away as soon as i removed Avast, now, 7 months on, i have reinstalled Avast, and have the same problem.

every time i click on something that gets highlighted by the mouse, the tab sticks and will not go away. but it will not constantly happen, only 1 will stick at a time. the only way i can get rid of them is to change resolution and there gone, but only to come back again when i click on something.

every driver is upto date.

specs:

Avast Home Edition
windows Vista ultimate 32 bit
Nvidia 8800 GTX

Kind of weird. Are you sure that your graphics card drivers are up to date?

Have you had previous A/V programs installed?

I haven't seen this problem on any of my computers yet, so I'm guessing something is conflicting on your system.

Menu, Display Remnants, Log Viewer Remnants, Graphics glitches, etc. - Menu, Display Remnants, Log Viewer Remnants, Graphics glitches, etc.

- Edit the C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\avast4.ini using Notepad [Common] section, add the following line to the section SunbeltKPFHack=2, save the file, you will be prompted by the avast! Self-defence module if this is OK answer Yes. Whilst this is primarily for Sunbelt or Kerio Personal Firewalls it may well work even if you don't use either of these firewalls.

Also see, http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=40840.msg342656#msg342656 which mentions a similar issue relating to McAfee Site Advisor and remnants of menus, etc.

didnt work :( now i got a ghost image of the Notepad stuck on my screen. lol

think this might be one of those errors that if your not sitting hear to fix it, it's going to be damn hard to find a solution.

everything is upto date, it even happend on my first install of everything when i put together the machine, i isntalled Avast on the first day, and i got that ghost tab, couldnt work out what was causing it, untill today.

OK, did you get to the point of saving it and the Self-Defence module asking if it was OK ?

If so try a reboot as the avast4.ini file would be reloaded with the new settings.

No problem, glad I could help.

What icons changed ?
It shouldn't effect icons or I wouldn't have thought so.

Did you have Site Advisor installed ?

Welcome to the forums.

just a couple of my desktop icons changed, (like my GTA4 rockstar social club icon changed to that windows built in game Purbles place, and another game's icon has changed to the old ceaser III game. lol) it's no problem i can put them strait, it's probably just coincidental. hope i dont discover that i got loads of others that have switched, but i'll just download a icon reconstuctor.

dont think i got site advisor installed, i like to keep things to a minimum.

OK, I think it is co-incidental too, other than resolving the graphics remnants it shouldn't change any program associated icons.
