I've seen this problem once in my computer (Windows 7 Pro 32 bits).
For other reasons, I've restored a Comodo Time Machine snapshot and avast never warned me about that anymore.
Something is fishy...

Hey there

I would like to know if you have reinstalled your OS and if it is OEM. If it is a OEM version then you can activate it once or and then when you installed it a 4th time windows will tell you that your copy is not genuine. Maybe you have to contact Microsoft.

Windows 7 has an alternative solution to such activation-problem.

click on Activate and then there should be "an alternative activation". You will need to call a a toll-free number.

look at this link maybe it will help. http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itprosecurity/thread/1c3ddce6-ebc0-4e47-8b87-d2591cd87612 and this http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20100630132839AATlzyr

Update KB971033, maybe? For Microsoft to assert that they have the right to treat ordinary PC-using consumers in this manner declaring their systems to be non-genuine and downgrading them at any time is rather staggering.

@ Dijidog

I would go to Account Related Settings select Hide email address from public to prevent scammers and spammers harvesting your yahoo.com email address.

Why post to something posted April 12, 2010, 02:35:28 AM  ???

I selected the option to hide the icon of the email in the forum but when I logged in, appears more than ever?

OK, the alarm sounded, I ran what was suggested, which was to move everything to the chest.  There they sit--what do I do with them??  Also, after the scan, which took a looooong time, I now have a message at the bottom right of my desktop that states "Windows Vista TM     Build 6002   This copy of Windows is not genuine." My version came with the laptop when I bought it...what's up with that??????  :-\  Help!  thanks!
This issue was reported once before.  The problem is installing Avast 5 before installing the Vista Service Packs.  Obviously this has not been fixed.  The problem here is that most people dont have their service packs on removable media and need to run thru Windows Update.  But wait, isnt it recommended to NOT connect to the interent without Antivirus?

***I know, MS recommends disabling fiewalls AND Antivirus for updating...what a frakin joke!!!***
Anyhow, I dont know if this happens with retail copies of Vista, and what the difference would be.  However, it seems the problem still exists with distro's like System Builder and OEM Vista(per SP1 & 2) installs.

Could Alwil development fix this problem once and for all?

Watch out, some of these password/license key recovery programs/tools may well be detected by avast as PUPs as they can be used for good or evil.
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.3.6108 (build 24.3.8975.762) UI 1.0.801/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

The exact same thing happened to me!  After extensive online research, I discovered that there is a thread on the Microsoft.com social forums regarding the "not genuine" issue and G Data antivirus.  I understand G Data uses Avast technology.  I can't help but wonder if the issue extends beyond G Data; ie is it the Avast components of G Data that are the cause?

I found a workaround to get my Windows 7 "re-activated", but it was a royal pain in the behind.  Had I known that restoring the two items in my Avast chest might have fixed the issue, I could have saved hours of work and research.  I have to tell you, getting strong-armed to buy a new license (in my case close to $400 with Ultimate 64 bit) after paying for my OS was not pleasant.  They already have a monopoly, does Microsoft really have to over-build their anti-piracy measures to the point that legitimate users have to face this kind of thing???

The G Data issue thread is here:http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/genuinewindows7/thread/8e047dc1-ddfc-47a6-a40a-e60a84817d92

Is there any connection to the G Data problem and Avast 5.0???  If anybody DOES have an answer to this, please let the rest of us know.  I think Avast is a great product, but if it causes Windows 7 and Vista to de-activate, then Avast needs to fix this problem post-haste.
indeed, we have to notify avast!

you dont do aything with them: unless their a false positive. they sit in the chest. if they ARE a false positive, take them out the chest, so the system can use them.

Again...the only time Iv gotten this error...and every time BTW...is when I dont update Vista service packs 1 & 2.  If I install the service packs before Avast, no problems.  I use an OEM 64 bit Ultimate package(system builders pack).  I dont know if this is a problem on the retail version, but I dont know the difference for MS key setttings either.

Can a tech try this by instaling Vista(without service pack 1 or 2), then install Avast to see if they get the same results.  I would be happy to 'borrow' you my system builders disc if you dont have one.

It just happened to me.  However I do not see any difference in the way my machine is working.  I was planning on dumping VISTA and Loading windows 7 anyway in an upgrade.  Do you think that will be enough of a fix?  Instead of putting the files "in a box" I asked the AVAST to delete them.
