Title: Avast you have lost my respect
Post by: gerrynz on May 30, 2013, 12:59:54 PM
Your commercial engineering tricking the average mum and dad computer user into downloading your commercial version is a viral tactic.

A lot of my clients are asking me why they have been tricked into downloading Avast Pro, when all they were trying to do was re-register for free

That was a bug and has been fixed meanwhile.

I've tried telling that to all my clients as well
And all they do is blame me for loading  Avast, hence my post.

I'm a very small IT guy in a small country, but when my clients tell me something or complain, I listen to them, and they are complaining now.

Have you ever heard the saying "You don't get a second chance to make a good first impression" ?

Frankly, Avast should apologize.  I don't think they ever officially acknowledged there was ever a problem.
Certainly, it's not even mentioned in the intro to the new version:

What is going on here Avast Team ?
I used to make my income removing virus's and malware.
Now my clients are asking me to remove Avast.

Its a funny world.

This is what you get when you use free AV software.  It might be a culture shock to some that a commercial firm is trying to incentivise its non-paying users to add to its revenue stream.  That's called being in business.  I have never found Avast to behave improperly.  I believe that the purpose of the free AV is to create goodwill and help promote the safety of personal home users on the Internet while being subsidised by business customers.

I certainly would not take umbrage against you gerrynz who has simply introduced your clients to the best free AV software available.  I can think of no better AV.  I have used it since version 4 and it has served me well.  To switch to an alternative would be cutting off your nose to spite your face (as we say in the UK).

The obvious alternative in terms of popularity is actually a less effective resource hogging inelegant elephant of a thing.

I have used it since version 4 and it has served me well.
I have as well.
But I can't justify charging my clients (mainly mum and dad users) for the problems they are having with Avast which now exceed viral/ malware problems.

Ironical as it is, a large proportion of my income is now removing avast. I guess I should be thanking avast for this but....  ?????

Cant you read or something ::)

UPDATE your clients avast program version and make them understand that every program will have problems sometime or the other they cant avoid going out without a AV.I disagree with you as even I install avast on client's machine but before doing that I make some things very clear with them!

Avast team has already acknowledged this earlier, see here: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=122132.msg931756#msg931756

Well,if there a problem with the program you put on their machines, you shouldnt be charging them because I myself dont ::)

Dont expect avast team to come to this topic and give you a special apology, they have better work ::)

You could not put it more politely and quietly? Irritation and rudeness will never help in work and debate.

Hi George Yves & true indian,

Why do we have to take this serious. "gerrynz" never posted here and this troll came over from MBAM forums.
Dear troll you have lost my respect also...
So treat it for what it is and "Do not feed trolls, they are only out to evoke damaging controversy".
Be wiser, leave it, and see it for what it is just trolling!

Polonus, Can you please justify your above quote.

With your Avast Überevangelist status and 17500 posts a lot of people will see you as a human face of Avast and believe what you say.
But when you fabricate statements like this, you and Avast will lose respect.

Three more clients in the last week, telling me they have been fooled into downloading and paying for the commercial version. Hence my original post:

Avast team, the best way to screw a business is to lose loyalty and you are doing that now.

Hi gerrynz,

It is how you present yourself in this thread. It is not factual, it is not seeking to go  into a discussion or seeking facts, it is just "accusational". It is typical how a troll would present himself. Post something in such a style as to arouse as much controversy as could be. You are not nice to others, but demand to not be treated likewise.
You take a haughty stance from point go with "Avast you have lost my respect" topic, leaving it hang in thin air and then respect to get friendly reactions and repectful answers.
Always expect to be treated the way you treat others, that is a good point to learn to behave in a more decent and more humble way and this will bring you far more in the end. And therefore you did not understand my rather ironical reply in the thread. Do I have to explain further?

What a bunch of snotty a-holes.

Now this really IS funny / ironic:

They are threatening to TAKE FURTHER(?) ACTION.

I've been begging them to take some action - any action to fix this problem - to no avail. Once one of the forum queens feels it has been dissed, I get some reaction. You girls need to get out more. Or learn how to write proper software. Or understand how to provide customer support.

You couldn't make this up.

You have received a warning

gerynzz and murryboy your aggression and rant to get things sorted is NOT going to help avast team nor you guys, please keep calm and explain us with some info about your problems in your respective threads, avast team cant fix things without getting additional info from their users. They need to investigate the cause of the problem first and that needs some details from you users.

Back on page 1 of this topic, there has been a mention of a program update that was rolled out to fix this problem so please update your avast program on the clients machine and plus avast has officially apologized to this in other thread, why dont guys read  :o

There swear words and rants wont help anyone here. Why in the world cant you guys understand simple english  ???

Please be civil as these type of replies make both of you look like a troll not a smarter one for that matter meh  ::)
I hope I have made myself very clear and now please dont reply in this thread unless you need help and you are willing to cooperate with us so that even we can help you,if you dont want help and you want to continue your rage war as I fear if this continues you may both suffer a topic lock or even ban which of-course depends on the mods.

We are trying to calm you guys down and try to help you as we did in page 1 and get some info out so we can help you and avast team can fix this problem.  :)

I hope I am very clear with my reply this time and atleast this time we can expect cooperation from both of you.

Thanks For Understanding!

To me the answer is simple:

I Listen to my clients when they say Avast has tricked them.

It does not get more simple than that, so I listen to them.

Hence my original post:

So why the **** do you come here to complain if you are not willing to get help or provide us with some data so avast team and we all can you help you.

As I said, you are nothing but a troll, not a smart one for that matter meh  ::)

Anyways,in that case,I am not going to take the initiative to respond in this topic anymore as I shouldnt feed trolls!!

I would also advice both of you to shut up if you dont want help and dont want to provide further data on the problem and get this fixed.

Thanks  ;D

If the answer to you is simple then the responsive answer in reply is also simple! teach your clients to always read things correctly, there is no trickery! they simply need to read what is laid before them and don't click on links or offers if they are not wanted ( Simple :) )

If your clients are failing on this process there are probably far more serious issues with there systems as they probably have a bundle of addons and toolbars that come with installers of most software these days.

"Avast" You were once a very respected AV Team.

They still are a very much respected AV team.
Avast has 180million+ users globally.

This figure alone shows more than enough respect.
