-
i think the versions was 2014, not sure, used avast for many years, Win 7 x 64, Zone alarm for firewall, problem has to be with Avast, turn off web shield and works perfectly, affected IE, Fire and Chrome. Fixed problem now, uninstalled an put on AVG ( Yuk ). Please need help, really want to go back to Avast, no point if i have to turn off web shield

Drop ZA and try again.
First, be sure to get rid of all remnants of your prior installed AV(s).
-> http://www.avast.com/faq.php?article=AVKB11
Then:
1. Download avast! Free Antivirus: http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe
2. Follow instructions: http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed avast! versions..!!)
3. Reinstall avast! with the downloaded installer from point 1.
4. Reboot.
-
Ill retry, dont know what diff zone alarm firewall ( only ) will do, but give it a go, did use avast clear and ran ccleaner to remove reg entries from previous versions of avast, downloading from your link now and report back in 30min
-
OK, awaiting your reply.
-
No diff, really annoying
-
Add the two lines in your WebShield.ini
[General]
UseStreamFilter=0
Reboot afterwards.
-

You still have parts of ZoneAlarm running and that is blocking Avast from accessing the net
Download and run this small tool and then see if the net works now

Yes Zonealarm was still running, it is a firewall only. Totally shutdown zonealarm firewall and still no difference, also avast and this same firewall always played nice before. Think issue is the web shield, i see others are starting to log issues about web access as well

Most likely, webshield wasn't granted web access in ZA when it last updated.
Check your settings in ZA, delete anything with avast and let ZA again ask you for permission and grant access.

Removed all avast from firewall and let it re run, all accepted and still no go. Like i said earlier, i completely turned off Zone alarm ( no firewall at all ) and still didnt work
-
Uninstall ZA and see if you can connect then, if so then reinstall ZA and see if the problem returns
-
Thanks for all your help guys, did complete uninstall of avast and Zonealarm, then clean install of Avast and works. Problems return after installing firewall, anyone recommend a good FREE firewall that works nice with the antivirus ( dont have much faith in Windows Firewall ). ;)
-
Nothing wrong with the Windows firewall. :)
-
Just like a bit more control on programs Bob, any suggestions?

If you want more control, give the free version of Windows Firewall Control a try.

I'm quite happy without any extra controls. I get asked whenever something strange wants to connect.
