Title: Error while sedating my PC with GRIME FIGHTER
Post by: REDACTED on March 09, 2015, 03:12:59 AM
When running my GF, I purchased today, an error message shows when sedating my PC.  It also says that I should contact support.avast.com , but to tell the truth it is not clear at all how and to whom I should state my problem, to get some help.

If this GF is not going to work  at full capacity, I want my money back!

Please tell me what I should do.

Thks,

FS

I have the same issue, freezing for a long time at the "sedating pc" process and then "An error has occurred when sedating my PC". And where I can see what version of GF I'm using? Every time I hit for the GF to analyze my PC it downloads something and then reboots - is this normal?

I am having the same issue. I also am using the free version of Avast and am running Windows 7 on a Toshiba Satellite (PSAY3C-04S10) I thought it might be due to some of the power features that can be enabled to run while the computer is off but after turning those off the issue still exists.

Hey Guys,

I also get the same error. Reboots into Grimefighter, "Sedates" the computer, "Starts to call in tech team" and gets to about 95% to where it would start fixing things and then I get the Abort error and have to cancel out.

Just an observation but I didn't have this problem with the previous release of Avast Internet Security 2015. I got the update released on 03/02/2015 and ever since then, it doesn't seem to work. I submitted a ticket and will let you know if I hear anything. If someone else has already heard, let us know!

Cheers,
Chris

I get the same error when sedating my PC. Windows 7 SP 1. I tried multiple times after purchasing the software. Would like an explanation or a refund.

Submitted a service ticket but have not heard back. Ticket ID: #PIR-123-92935

So just a quick update on my end (and an attachment to see if it is the same thing). For the record I am also running Windows 7 SP1.

Attached is where it is getting hung up - just curious if everyone else is getting to the same point.

Heard back from Tech Support and they wanted me to try running the stand alone version. Tried that and still gets hung up on the same screen. Have reverted back to Tech Support so hopefully we will get it sorted.

EDIT - Here is version of Avast I am currently running 2015.10.2.2215.

I'm stuck at the same 95ish % place too! When I restart my pc in the first place I can't use my mouse or my keyboard. So I first have to reboot in safe mode, and then reboot again normally. I bought this program yesterday, but it's been messing more with my PC then fixing it..

I want my money back or a working program..

Seems like there are plenty of complaints logged here ! When can we expect a reply from tech support ?...the "866" phone for USA users is not working either !!

Hi All,

First, apologies for the frustration caused by this issue.  If I could kindly ask you to please open a support ticket here:

https://support.avast.com/

And be sure to include an important file.  Please go to C:  Windows, jumpshot.com and attach the grimefight text document.  This should help us identify why GrimeFighter is getting stuck at that point in the scan.

Many thanks for your patience regarding this.

Davidek

Very disappointed in Avast.  Have been a loyal user for years.  I purchased GF yesterday and got the "error sedating PC message."  Submitted a ticket for tech support and received NO reply.  Submitted a ticket to request a refund and got NO reply.  Called 866# and sat on hold for hours with no answers.  Shame on you Avast.

You should have gotten a automated reply.
And you also should have patience, this is the real world.
It is only one day ago since you have submitted your first ticket.
avast is trying to handle the tickets within 10 business days.
As has been explained many times, each time you submit a ticket you will be put back to the bottom of the stack making it you will have to wait longer.

Quick Update from my end:

Again, for those that are frustrated, Tech Support has definitely been responsive and working with me. We still haven't got to the bottom of the issue but the last attempt was done after TS reset my account. Still no luck. Still gets stuck running both "through" the virus software and as a stand alone.

Davidek, the file that you are requesting, is it Drive:/Windows/jumpshot.com/Grimefight.txt or /avastium.txt? I can attach either or.

Hello xanax,

Both of those files could help so please send both.

Martin, please open Avast and go to Scan, Scan for Performance Issues.  That will start GrimeFighter.  Alternatively, you can right click on one of the tiles on the main screen and select GrimeFighter there as a shortcut

So a few updates:

1) I've attached the error message I am getting. I am working with Lukas from TS who has forwarded the problem onto the developers but have heard nothing back as of yet. Interesting that I was able to use the program for a couple of months with no issue but with the most recent updates to Avast Pro, it seems like there is a conflict (or perhaps conflict with a Windows update?).

2) As most people here, I can connect to the internet just fine when I boot into Windows. I am hardwired in and not via wifi.

3) Davidek, I would be more than happy to post my files but I'm a bit hesitant to put them up in the public forum. Would I be able to message them to you? Also, Lukas wanted files from a folder called "hw". I don't have such a folder but was curious as to why I don't have that folder?

Cheers!

One item I noticed in the Avastium file...at the end it states:

[0331/214941:ERROR:proxy_config_service_win.cc(159)] WinHttpGetIEProxyConfigForCurrentUser failed: 1018

I see a lot of people with the same complaint I have. I filed a ticket days ago, but have yet to hear back about it. Has anybody ever had this issue fixed, or should I just demand my money back?

I found no such file at that location. The only  text document I found in the "jumpshot.com" folder was called "jumpshot_version.txt.new."

Tech Support still working on my problem. Sent the files to Davidek via PM (Davidek, let me know if you got them). Still getting the same issue. I'm wondering if this is a Windows Update issue....although when it reboots into Grimefighter, it should be "outside" of the windows framework I guess. Strange thing is, when in grimefighter, and I get the error, I can still surf the internet. It is like something is blocking Grimefighter from connecting.

Hi Xanax76,

We weren't able to entirely pinpoint the issue causing your error.  There are a couple possibilities; basically when GrimeFighter starts to boot into Linux it needs to perform a few tasks in order to be able to do that on top of a Windows system.  It looks at the registry, disk, graphic, and network configs.  If any of those seem amiss to GrimeFighter, it decides not to run instead of potentially removing or changing key files on your PC.

https://support.avast.com/

Long story short, we owe you a refund and an apology that the product did not work as expected.  Please open a support ticket at the link below and ask for a refund.

I can say that we are working on a major product upgrade that will eliminate this issue from happening but I can't give a firm release date yet except to say early summer.

Grime fighter worked twice on my laptop. Very useful. But then I started receiving same error of not sedating my PC and about contacting services. The last time it stopped speedbit working, could this be the culprit because Google too started complaining about speedbit

Thanks Davidek and I'm really sorry to hear this. Just out of curiosity, are you and the team thinking that it is windows conflict or another piece of software? The reason I ask is that it worked fine up until the beginning of March when I updated my Avast version and of course, I've been installing Windows updates all along. I'd have to confirm but I haven't installed any new software for a bit. Again, just curious. I will submit a ticket for a refund. If there is something else I can submit, let me know. I've turned Grimefighter off for now.

Im having the same issue.   The ticket link is not working...!!!  I just tried 5 times and it is not going through.  for 3 days now, Ive been trying.    two of my friends have tried to send a tech sup. ticket as well, over the past couple of days because of this grime fighter issue shutting down our PC's but they are having the same problem wit the ticket requests not going through.   keeps saying  "PROBLEM LOADING PAGE"  "SECURE CONNECTION FAILED"

I"m using the latest free version of avast and (((I have never purchased or even used grime fighter.)))  Yet Grime fighter keeps shutting down my PC randomly.  It will shut down whn im watching movies or doing important tasks.  upon reboot I get a grime fighter logo saying my PC is now asleep, we are contacting tech support. Then it takes almost 5 minutes to reboot.  now every time i reboot it takes almost 5 minutes to reboot.   I just built this PC and it always boots rocket fast.  now since this grime fighter keeps shutting down my PC, my PC is slow to start and sluggish.  Grime fighter just shut down my PC during  a annual Microsoft windows auto update.  now My brand new  PC takes just a bout 5 minutes to start and my PC is now screwed up, slow and sluggish.  We demand to know wht to do about this, or any work around for this.  We demand to know.  Plz let me know wht to do.  IF I UNINSTALL AVAST COMPLETELY, WILL THIS FIX THE ISSUE OF GRIME FIGHTER RANDOMLY SHUTTING DOWN MY PC???  I NEVER PURCHASED OR USED GRIME FIGHTER EVER. SO WHY DOES IT KEEP SHUTTING DOWN MY PC?   (((these are the only files with in the jumpshot.com files.  there is no grime fighter text document, because i never even purchased or even used it before, but yet it keeps shutting down my PC)))   any help would be great peeps.

there is only 4 files with in the JUMPSHOT.com file   contents as follows:

1)     jumpshot                              Disk Image File

2)     jumshot.img.acs                    ACS FILE

3)     jumpshot_version                  TEXT DOCUMENT

4)     jumpshot_version.txt.new      NEW FILE

PLZ TAKE THIS INFO AND DO WHT IS NECESSARY.  IVE BEEN TRYING ALL MORNING SINCE 7:30AM AND YOU TECHS KEEP SENDING US TO ALL DIFFERENT KINDS OF OTHER POSTS OR LINKS TO NO END..  I'm NOT KNOCKING ANY ONE'S EXPERTISE HERE BYE ANY MEANS, BUT ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Thanks
