Title: Avast R3 beta bugs
Post by: bob3160 on June 16, 2015, 01:25:53 AM
It took 9 minutes for the system to boot.
The system seems very sluggish since the update.
Google Chrome Browser crashes and is unusable *
I'm sure this accounts for the slow start and sluggish initial reboot:

* After a repair of Avast, I'm again able to use Chrome without problems and crashes.

The restore point Avast creates prior to updating the program never happened ???

The promised context menu enhancements
when right clicking the avast system tray icon
aren't anywhere to be found ???

The remote control function is still requiring permission on the remote device:

Since this is my own system and I'm out of town, giving that permission on the
other system is not possible.

Office 2013 just got killed by Avast's protection. Not a good move:

Well, that's why the beta. So that this kind of stuff gets aggregated into the cloud. I'm guessing they have it connected with this feature...

Smart scan not working. During the browser cleanup this came up while removing
an item and now Chrome crashes.

If Avast no longer uses the System Restore Point for their virtual Technology,
Why has it wiped out all of my restore points ???
(Seems like someone rushed this beta version ??? )

Bob, several users have reported the same issue in the past month or so.  Don't think this is related to this being a beta, but a bug not fixed yet.

I didn't have this problem till I installed this beta. So it can't be a previous bug on my system. It has to be the latest beta that's causing it on my system.

Check to see if your VSS service is set to manual and set properly.

Hi Bob,

systray redesign unfortunately still not ready for this release, but will be done in V2016. Similar to the Remote control with password, but to be honest this functionality isn't used as we would expect.

It probably would be if it was functioning properly. Since it now requires entering a password on a system you don't have access to, it's impossible to use.  :'(

Yes it will do the feature better definitely, but unfortunately there wasn't enough users even before we removed it. So the password won't save it, just slightly improve it ;-(

Is this an indication that Avast plans on removing this feature ??? It's especially useful on the business side.
Controlling computers in other offices without actually needing someone in that office is a great addition to keeping thing updated etc.

I've used remote assistance feature in Household here since I manage all Household systems,  entering the password on upstairs system, then going back to main system is major inconvenience at times,  despite I don't use it all that often, have occasionally though.  Otherwise Avast works great on all the systems that it's installed on, even slow as can be 10 year old laptop, (2005 hardware, Intel Celeron M, Radeon 200M graphics, 1.5gb of ram, 60gb hard drive lol)

Now when Windows 10 Upgrade day comes on July 29th? Does Avast Developers recommend users uninstall prior to upgrading to 10, Avast, then reinstalling once all upgraded and updated and such?    (updating two systems, so this just came to mind while I was typing this beta feedback)

If you're doing an upgrade from Windows 7 or 8.1, and are using the latest version of Avast, you don't need to uninstall Avast prior to the upgrade to Windows 10.
(I will be pausing the Shields in Avast during the upgrade process.)

Excellent, just wanted to make sure is all, and do plan on pausing the shield myself as well.    Yes two machines updating are Windows 7 Sp1 machine and 8.1 Pro 64bit machine..

AIS Firewall problem.
Each of the past 3 Windows 10 Preview Upgrades have resulted in the Avast Firewall not working.

Each new Upgrade has resulted in needing a repair of Avast:

After the repair and a reboot, the Avast Firewall again works:

This obviously needs to be addressed. July 29 is not far away. :)

When I run a smart scan I get a warning that my PC's performance need attention. I do not have the Cleaner installed. This just started with the update I received today.

Bob, isn't a simple reboot enough for the firewall to work again? We've seen such behavior before with reboot being just enough.
Thanks, Lukas.

Rebooting didn't work for the past 2 Windows 10 updates 10159 and 10162.
I had to do a repair and then a reboot to reactivate the firewall.

I do not have The Cleaner installed as you can see. When will this be fixed?

I can't replicate your issue, though it is reporting my 'PC performance is already optimized'. And I certainly haven't got the cleaner (a.k.a. GrimeFighter) installed.

There was a time in earlier beta versions of 2015, that the GrimeFighter was installed so it could be tested. After that I uninstalled it, I may even have done a clean install of the regular release version of the program.

Using the RC build of the latest avast Free on a Windows 7 x64 system.  Things seem to be working rather well overall (including the new HIPS features).

However, after a background scheduled scan has finished, the main program interface still pops up on the desktop, and opens to the "Scan Results" panel to report that no virus was found.  The setting "Automatically open the scan results when scan is finished" box is NOT checked.

I (and others) have reported this with various final and beta versions since last summer. Here's hoping that when the final version is released, there will be a setting to suppress the opening of the main interface after a scheduled scan unless a problem was detected.  Instead, maybe a notification balloon over the avast tray icon could be displayed to report that, basically, there is no problem to report.

Hi Crashman,

I tired to reproduce this, had Free AV installed, but no success. It behaves as it should in my case.

Hi Bob,

is the system startup still that long with the latest build 2222?
Or did anybody else also encountered significantly longer boot time compared to 2218?

Thanks
Martin
