For the past few days, when I go to certain web pages, the images are not appearing. Some examples are Yahoo's main page, Yahoo images search, and Flickr. I use the latest version of Firefox and Avast free version. If I temporarily disable Avast shields control, the pages load ok. When I enable it, the web pages will not show images. If I use Internet Explorer, the pages load ok with images. It's only been doing it recently and I haven't made any changes. Thanks.

I can confirm the same thing happening when I view Yahoo's home page. Turn off web shield and the images load just fine. This has been happening for the last 2 days using Avast Free 10.3.2225 on Win 7.

The preference would be not to turn of the web shield, disable HTTPS scanning (avastUI > Settings > Active Protection > Web Shield > Customize - disable HTTPS scanning. That is a minimal action rather than completely disabling web shield.

Same thing here with both my laptops using Avast. The Yahoo home page images on Firefox and Chrome are missing. So frustrating. It just started a few days ago. I really need to know how to fix. I've had Avast for over 10 years...never had this problem before.
I did as the above poster suggested - disabled the HTTPS scanning. It worked which is good. Is it OK that the scanning is disabled???

Isn't anyone reading the previous posts, you will find that disabling HTTPS scanning would have the desired effect.

Thanks DavidR, that worked. For some reason your post wasn't visible when i was typing mine. Do you know why HTTPS caused this and would disabling it have any negative outcomes?

There was an issue with XP and the work around to be able to Scan HTTPS pages, but for win7 and later windows has the API required to achieve this.
Initially it was only those on XP that seemed to be experiencing this, though for some reason I didn't on this system (see signature), but now we (avast users on the forums) are seeing more win7 users having this issue. My circumstances are much changed as I'm on the latest beta stream and we had to program updates in a day, the second one I shouldn't have got (restricted on XP systems). I think some of the updates for vista and higher may well have screwed my previously stable beta build. So I can't really offer a suggestion as to why this is happening.
Again it is weird in that on my win7 netbook I'm not experiencing this, my only issue is this netbook is so underpowered everything takes ages and this is now spreading to browsing.
This really is a workaround as Disabling HTTPS is by far more preferable than disabling the web shield as that still scans HTTP pages.

Yes I have just uninstalled the latest beta for the latest regular release 10.3.2225, that version was previously working for me even on Yahoo.com. but now even that is having image issues with HTTPS scanning enabled.

It becomes even more weird, even though I have disabled HTTPS scanning in the Web Shield settings - stopped and restarted the web shield - it continues to scan HTTPS pages, but the images are loaded in Yahoo.com.

I tried disabling the HTTPS scanning and it's working so far. Nice to know I'm not the only one with this issue. Thanks for the input.

Registered just to make this post.
I've been noticing this problem the past few days. I use Yahoo as my homepage so when I saw it wasn't loading images, I figured it was on Yahoo's end. Then I saw no one reporting having problems with Yahoo after a few days, figured it was on my end. Since it happened on both my computers (with Avast installed) I assumed it was my router/network issue. Then I noticed Yahoo loads just fine in Internet Explorer. So I knew it was some program I had running (Malwarebytes alongside Avast). Eventually figured out it was Avast and here I am now.
Hopefully this gets reported to Avast so they can fix this issue in the next update. This is quite frustrating as images do not load, and making my email look unreadable. Hopefully I don't have to drop using Avast.

You can always use the suggest workaround, though I can't understand why there is a difference between browsers. Many are also seeing this in Chrome, so why not IE is strange.

How do these kind of glaring bugs get out of beta ? For some reason, avast has done a poor job recently
with their quality control.

DavidR, as a non-techie person, thanks for the suggestion to make the images reappear on Yahoo via Chrome/and/or/Firefox. Your easy to follow solution brought back my images on the Yahoo home page. I was sent over to this forum by another poster above who was having this same issue. Thanks to both of you for helping resolve this annoying issue.
Also, if I used IE and went to Yahoo, it was fine, also if I went to Yahoo on my AOL browser. I don't pretend to understand any of it...LOL...just thankful its fixed!

I have been using Avast for 2 years on about 10 pc's that I administer and have directed dozens of others to install it on their PCs. I logged in here to inform you that your "workaround" is bogus. It is unprofessional and ineffectual to tell end users to change settings, especially settings that reduce security. This engine should have been rolled back to a working engine. People get paid to administer computers running avast and then they get blamed for issues caused by avast. The cavalier attitude about an issue that makes many popular websites unusable is ridiculous. This should have been fixed immediately. I have seen the issue in Firefox, and Google Chrome and in Windows XP, 7, 8.1 AND 10 for the several days. I am in the process of unistalling Avast and switching to your competiion. Maybe they still give a damn about their end users experience.

I ran into this too, recently, Wikipedia's logo absolutely refuses to load while avast webshield is running. Even when I copy the image's URL and try to go to it directly, the connection instantly times out. No error or blank page or anything, it just doesn't do anything.

I have Windows 8.1 pro 64 bits and Avast Free 10.3.2225 and in Internet Explorer 11 does not load some images.

Unfortunately, when I open the UI and go to Settings, there is no Option for Active Protection - Does the Free Version not have the option to disable HTTPS Scanning?

Yes it does, but the First Step of clicking the Settings should produce another screen and it is the second tab in this screen. Se attached image, click to expand.
