Thanks. Everything looks good except with version 11 I have to install additional language (English) again after the update.
I don't know why language settings (Croatian & English) are not preserved.

Hello,
Are there any reports of this new version causing BSOD on Win7 machines? I installed the update yesterday afternoon (Nov 30) and since then my PC has given me the BSOD three or four times and I've noticed Outlook 2013 and Sourceforge's Go Contact Sync Mod application will hang.

Thanks

XP Pro SP3 - Removed the last beta 2244, rebooted and installed 2245 install appeared to complete (tray icon was present), but there was no reboot request. I left this for a while and still no reboot request. Checking or rather trying to check Task Manager nothing on the toolbar worked everything appeared to be frozen, no right click functionality or keystroke commands. Even the restart key (soft restart, closes open programs before restart) on the keyboard failed to work.

Hard restart - after reboot system started loading but never got to the avast tray icon being present and the system locked, hard restart again. This happened again after the hard restart. At this point I was considering a boot into safe mode and uninstall, but I gave it one more shot.

It did get further this time but got some desktop hassle no doubt due to the Hard restarts, resolved that and avast was finally up and running.

Tested the Scan for network threats and the previous bug (one device still scanning after success) appears to have been squashed.

Updated ok from within the GUI on 2 machines. On a Toshiba Laptop with Win 10 Home 64 it tried to install Chrome. Easy to opt of. On a Dell 8200 with XP PRO SP3 no Chrome, but background service did not start at first. That happens now and then on an update, but is ok after the second reboot.

My userbase seems to like the new Avast 2016 User Interface.
Most of them are Seniors, but so far they have no problems to find their way in the UI :)

Installed the new version (file and web shields only) onto 32 bit XP and Windows 7 PC's.
Declined Chrome.  Both installs were good (so far).  No reboot requested, the product just started
working.  One of the PC's are just on the edge of the hardware requirement, it's a Pentium 4
with SSE but not SSE2.  Haven't seen any crash so far.

If you took part in a previous beta session, you are on the beta stream, should another beta session be started then you would get that beta version.

To come off the beta stream you effectively have to do a reinstall of the non-beta release.

Ok so I am actually running the "Final" build however it says Beta because I am a beta tester. Kind of like how I am a Windows Insider too :)

Got it Thanks guys

You need to go into the the Scan for viruses, when you select your custom scan from the dropdown list - it will now show Delete custom scan name. The Test bit in the image is my Text/comment for this test.

I have never used an on-line installer for several reasons. Mainly security if you had another AV installed (possible conflict) or had no AV installed (lacking protection) and finally I don't believe you have the same control over what is installed. e.g. I don't know if it allows a custom install.

Keep getting the connection was reset error message when trying to download the new free version
Spent several hours prior to 4 PM attempting to download full executable for AIS 2016 only to have failure at the end of download every time.

Not sure what changed between 4 PM here and 11 PM now but something did as a full download did complete properly.  Will be doing a full clean install sometime later on.

Hy Speedy,

Could you please tell us more details how you installed the latest Avast version and what steps you did prior to the issue occured?

I tested Avast and SZB on the same OS's with no similar findings.

I also see the Avast is in a wrong state, because there is missing Passwords and Store items in menu.

Was restart of the machine helpful? Did you try repair install?

Thanks!

still avast NG doesn't work on windows 10 64 bit

I've lost Secure Virtual Machines support after update. No option to select in setup either.
Confirmed with both Win7 64bit (Premier) and Win Vista 32bit (Free).

I've lost Secure Virtual Machines support after update. No option to select in setup either. Moreover, although passwords are filled and working fine, I can't view or edit any of them in the interface. Just never ending spinning wheel. Personal info and safenotes work fine...

I updated 3 Windows7 SP1 laptops thru the AvastUI on which Secure Virtual Machines was working fine.  I've lost SVM support on all 3 machines.  Going thru Windows Control Panel and selecting Avast Modify doesn't show the option to install it nor does running the full AIS installation package for an over the top reinstall.  Was this intentional on Avast's part?

Hi there I have one computer, that has the online security extension in Firefox, but the icon does not show up on the browser bar, nor does it say if any pages are safe or not, when doing a google search.

Today my laptop, the extensions that were working fine, only the online security ones is working, and the password manger keeps turning off, maybe you may have some bug in it.

Have you rebooted your system ??? If that doesn't take care of the problem, try a repair:

Programs and Features > Select Avast> Select Repair
When the repair finishes, Reboot your system

Post by: REDACTED on December 11, 2015, 10:36:41 AM
After updating to this (2245) version I lost access to my NAS (Fritz.NAS with USB-attached storage) via \\fritz.nas . As this happened on two PCs (one Windows 7 Pro 64-bit, one Windows Home 32-bit) I suspected avast. Therefore I used the windows recovery to rollback to previous avast version and I was able access the NAS server. So I am pretty sure it is related to the avast update. Any advice how to get my Fritz.Nas accessable with the latest avast version?
Thanx in advance
Petra

2244 before version is there, now 2245 installed version win7 nothing.

If you installed the previous version of secure virtual machines have this option, but after the update there is no virtual machine.

Personally, I never use the URL filter. If you use some browser hardening (WOT, NoScript, uBlock etc) you should be fine. I have rarely ever used a url filter in 10 years of browsing the Internet, and the only infection I have ever had was a trojan (in 2008 on an old laptop) from a flash player ad which a url filter almost certainly wouldn't have stopped. The only times I have used a url filter (Avast!, Panda) I have only ever had false positives. Don't believe the FUD.

Getting lots of applications freezing that started the same day I installed this update (Dec 11). It happens most frequently to Mozilla Firefox or Thunderbird, but can happen to any application it seems. The apps start "not responding" and won't restart successfully after running end process on them. I have to restart the system to fix.  Has anyone else had a similar problem?

I am running Windows 7 Pro 64 bit and Avast 11.1.2245.

Also on Dec 11, I installed Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB915597 (Definition 1.211.2403.0).

Yes! I'm having the same issue with a game called Mechwarrior Online. I found out that at the moment of freeze, one game file becomes locked for system and I can't launch the game back until I reboot my pc. Also I know several people with the same problem.

I feel I am about to fall out of love with Avast.
The last version had it 'mostly right.
But now?
(is it just me??)

No more schedule option
The ! notification of shields off can't be turned off??
Interface is unnavigable ?
Still the pushy upgrade mission?
Which further amplifies the popup plethora?

IMHO this package(AVASTs direction) is bad marketting strategy.Users  will upgrade more often, when AVAST can deliver a reliable user friendly and consistent system.

Where to next?
Sigh ::)

Since this version of Avast 2016 I have noticed that NG is no longer active. Has avast changed the specs required to use NG?

I have done a clean install of Avast and even then NG has not been installed or displayed as a "secure virtual machine" option isn't available.

Yes avast team members view and participate in the forums, but for the most part these team members are contributing here are developers so time is limited. The majority of responses comes from other avast users who have been using avast for a long time.

This is already a large topic, so if you have a specific problem it is best to create a new topic about it so it doesn't get buried in this topic.

The main change in the UI is simply the first page, getting past that (Settings, the cog wheel) and the majority of the sections under it are the same. Again if you have a specific problem with the UI ask.

I would certainly be shocked if my settings were gone if it was indeed an update from the UI, which is meant to preserve both settings and installed modules. The one thing that I do if doing a clean install is to Back up settings (avastUI > Settings - bottom of the window - Back up settings.

I don't use win10, so I can't say if this may well be related, but I think it would be worthwhile to use the Back up settings prior to update. Then you can check if they are there or not and Restore settings if necessary.

Bear in mind this is a support forum so you are going to see reported issues (pinning it down is harder) and this without issue generally don't come to the forums.

Hello. I have tried installing avast twice now. I'm currently running windows 10 on a Toshiba satellite. The first time I installed it totally destroyed my computer and I had to reset the computer to manufacture settings. I lost everything. Then I tried again a few months later thinking it was either just a really bad update, or I didn't download avast correctly. Anyways, I was wanting to know if avast is actually compatible with windows 10. I have used avast for years now and I really don't want to get a different antivirus.

Title: Wheres manage other accounts? where is remote ? new UI again? Relearn again.PAIN
Post by: Courier2001 on December 22, 2015, 07:35:41 PM
yes, I agree with others that the major UI redesign is super confusing. TY IC747 your right.

At one time Avast had had Access-AnyWhere a remote control of systems running Avast back 2 years ago or so. That option is gone. Which was dreadful for me as I had installed Avast and Avast Premier on many computers that are all over New York area to control then from one central location. Many of these remote computers are owned by seniors who have no computer savvy at all.
OK now  Goggle Remote Desktop Works and replaced Avast Premier Remote feature I had Liked.

The UI changes every years or so making any attempt to teach others folks with no computer knowledge how to USE> in this case Avast Premier and or the Free Version of Avast a very tough thing to do.

When the updates completely change the UI every so often >>> I have to RELEARN the UI find which features still work and which are gone that I had based my purchase on.  I then have to re-teach Avast it to all the people I had recommended Avast to who have no clue what to do as the interface has changed again.
At 60 70 plus folks  do not want to relearn an AVAST interface that changes every year they just want to safely get on the internet and Facebook.

The UI change and stressful update come at a time when for me  when I  have to renew 3 main licences that I use and now 6 other business licences as well as 7 free ones. 8( gezzz

Many of these use to be on my ACCOUNTS LIST on my main copy of Avast Premier along with status and other information like last scan dates, online or off line, Location, and the like.  GONE??? or i cant find it yet.

My new complaint here is. > Where are the my other Avast licenced accounts listed in the UI ((((Manage Accounts)))).  Feature Gone ?

OL' MANAGE ACCOUNTS feature  GONE? or BROKEN ? well No IT is There i guess> the top right click my name (your name) scroll down too >manage accounts UI AVAST 2016 R1 SP1 (2016.11.1.2245)

I checked Account Manage Accounts and clicking on the my name (account) nearly disconnected the my account  lol. But Worse is where are all my other Licenced Accounts (GONE?) as well as free accounts which should have been listed under Manage Accounts.  NO ITs THERE

I mean why name it that if its only one account lists off the bat?  In which case Manage (disconnect) your account works with no s.

Oh NOW I SEE NOW  lol ha funny ADD ACCOUNTS leads too Log IN to AVAST PREMIER. Which also leads too the OL' Manage OTHER ACCOUNTs  Why am I logging in again to begin with? I was logged in. WOW cool UI change take a direct link in the ui manage other accounts and hide it cool...burr.
Maybe in a few days I may find or stumble on to where the heck connect remotely to other accounts is hidden. Or is that feature gone totally still have not found that. sigh

Great UI Hurt my brain and business again.

I disabled Windows Defender, and it seems to have stopped the application hangs, so I am guessing it was at fault and not Avast. :)

There seems to be a precedent for this from 2012:

Title: Avast 2016 not compatible with Mozilla Firefox?
Post by: REDACTED on December 28, 2015, 12:29:28 PM
I am having a huge compatiblity issue between Avast 2016 and Firefox 43!

I can't for the life of me get the Avast Online Security add-on to work in Firefox.

I've tried complete fresh installs of both products, but to no avail. At first I thought it was an issue with Firefox 64-bit, but after switching back to the 32-bit version, nothing changed, the problem persisted.

I already tried this solution, but it didn't work, either, since I don't even have a "Remove" button for AOS:

Please remove current Avast Online Security plugin (AOS) from your Firefox (click Remove button) and then repair Avast installation. It should install the latest AOS version in to your Firefox. To repair Avast installation click on "Start", find "Control Panel" and click on it. A new window will open. In this window you should see the icon "Programs and Features". Again, you should click on it. Select 'Avast, then click on the 'Uninstall/Change'. When the avast! Setup Wizard appears, select the option "REPAIR" from the left pane. Restart your PC.

Can anyone help me? I want my Avast Online Security back.  :-[

As workaround you can use Firefox ESR.

What's that?

Besides, I don't really want to have to install anything besides the latest version of FF only so that the damn Avast add-on works. I want a fix. I hope there will be one soon. Or am I the only one having this issue?

No you are not the only one having issues with 'non signed' or inappropriately signed add-ons
And Avast isn't the only software with add-ons that are being "disabled" due to the signing issue created by FF.

No problem here with AOS and Firefox:

I don't want a new version, I want the old one back. My notebook computer apparently auto-installed an update a few days ago in the middle of the night (as evidenced by a pop-up message that I found when I got to my computer the next morning). Since that day, I cannot get anything about my computer to work once it's booted up. The mousepad doesn't work, so I can't move my cursor. The arrows don't work, so I can't change lines. The Escape key doesn't work, so I can't access the start-up menu on reboot. I have to do a hard shutdown with the on/off button. When attempting to reboot, it comes up and asks about starting Windows normally or in a safe mode, but the arrows don't work, so I can't choose safe mode. So it starts in normal mode and does nothing once there. I have to press and hold the on/off button to get it off again. I waited a couple of days before trying to reboot again today, but it's the same ol' same ol. I was working on this computer on New Year's Eve, and it was perfectly fine. After whatever was updated, no dice.

HELP PLEASE!!

First thing I do after installing Avast is uninstall the add-on. It's annoying, and I can't imagine what it does that the real-time scan doesn't? If I'm running a patched browser/OS, is Avast going to protect me from an unknown zero day? Doubt it. All it seems to do is slow down my browser.

Can someone tell me what the add-on does besides give Avast a nice "feature" bullet point?

Hello. Somebody deleted my post it seems! Very weird. So, I will try to repeat what I said before...
If you can't use your keyboard at the Safe Mode boot screen, something is very wrong with your computer, and it extends beyond Avast. At that point in the boot process, virtually no drivers or OS components have been loaded. In fact, even if you boot all the way into Safe Mode, Avast typically would not be loaded. So, although there is no way I could speculate as to what specifically has gone wrong with your computer, it seems like something is wrong at a very low level, maybe even hardware. I would recommend seeing if you can boot using a bootable USB or a live CD (such as BitDefender) and see if your keyboard works and if you can troubleshoot your windows OS from there.

In the recent updates last few months, Avast has eliminated the "ngtool isready" test cmd function.

When it was available through late Fall 2015, it was showing that NG was NOT - repeat NOT - working on FOUR of my PCs (three Win 7 Pro 64-bit and one XP Pro 32-bit, all with hardware-virtualization capacity).  See my thread at
https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=178652.msg1273884#msg1273884 .

So, instead of making NG actually work, Avast has hidden the test and NONE of us can actually check whether NG is working.

Avast, any comment?

I'm not even sure that NG is or has been available for XP - I have never seen it deployed on this XP Pro SP3 system.

Mind you that could be down to me if at some point it was available, in a custom install at some point I may have removed the function. In subsequent UI updates it wouldn't have been installed either.

DavidR - Thanks for response.  What about my three Win 7 Pro 64-bit machines that are hardware-virtualization capable?

Some time ago the actual system requirements for NG were very low, unrealistically low. So much so that I got it twice on my Acer Aspire One, Win7 Starter (32bit) 10.1", 1024X600 screen, 2GB DDR3 RAM, Intel Atom N255 (1.5GHz dual core) CPU and 250GB HDD.

Hopefully you can see why I said unrealistically low. Now those system requirements have been increased, unfortunately I don't know what they are, but I think that having a hardware virtualization capable system may well not be as important as the CPU power and RAM, etc.

My Win 7 Pro 64-bit is a Dell 7010 MT with an Intel Core i5 3470 @ 3.2 GHz, and with 16GB RAM.  Nothing missing here.

Bottom line is that Avast has pushed the NG failure under the rug.

1. Well that system I would have thought would have been fine.

2. I don't see it that way as many are able to install and use it, so it isn't that way for everyone. Exactly why it works on some systems but not others is the big question. I think the system spec to be able to install the NG module.

You might want to check if the NG (now a different name 'Virtual Machine xxxxxx' something) is listed in the Control Panel > Programs and Features > Avast - Change - from the next screen click Modify and it will show the options available.

DavidR - That "Modify" option screen does NOT show me "NG" or "Virtual Machine xxxxxx" or anything else that mentions virtualization.

NG is still broken, on a perfectly good PC that has hardware virtualization capacity.

I can't say whether it is broken or that it doesn't meet the system requirements (which we as users don't know) and as such isn't offered or an option. It isn't there on my Acer netbook when it was before when the system requirements were unrealistically low.

Not sure if I should post this here or in the other (general) section for issues with Avast. Anyway, I downloaded the latest Avast (2016.11.1.2245) 3 days ago. I am using IE 11 (Version 11.0.9600.18161; update version 11.0.27, KB 3124275) with Win 8.1. My IE 11 now crashes intermittently. The only solution is to open Task Manager and close IE and then restart (clicking on the "X" on the top right hand corner does not work after IE crashes). Upon reopening IE 11, things work fine again until the next crash. I was using another antivirus before and never had this issue. I have not yet used Chrome often enough to know if it occurs also with it.

A few questions:

(1) I thought someone had suggested that this was an issue specific to IE and seemed to be related to the Avast plug in. Is this the case?

(2) If I disable the plug in (just to see if it is the cause of the IE crash), will it compromise my security? Does the plug in prevent phishing (since clicking "settings" on the Avast Online security icon on the top right corner) brings up several things such as the web reputation of the site, phishing, etc. ?

Thanks

1. I can't answer that as I don't have IE11 on either system.

2. The Avast On-line Security extension/add-on adds some extra to the main internet protection, the Web Shield. Disabling it shouldn't really be a major issue.

Hi DavidR: Thanks for your response to my previous post about Avast 2016 possibly causing IE 11 to crash intermittently.

I am nervous about disabling the Avast add on (even just to test if it is causing IE 11 to crash) because I had noticed when I click on "Settings" in the Avast online security icon, it suggested that it might have functions in preventing phishing and also attempts to redirect an online search to an illegitimate website. These would seem to be rather important functions.

Does anyone know if disabling the add on in IE 11 does or does not disable the anti phishing or anti redirection functions of Avast 2016?

The Web Shield is the main web protection - lets assume that you ended up at a phishing site, the web shield still gives full protection as the sites are scanned.

The easiest way would be to uninstall the Avast On-line Security in avast.
Control Panel > Programs & Features > Avast Antivirus > Change - from the next screen choose Modify. This takes you into the avast setup and you can uncheck the Browser Security (that is what the Avast On-line Security add-on is called in the setup). OK your way out and reboot that should then remove it from all installed browsers.

Now you can test IE11 without it.

In these few days I decided to experiment, to walk through the "different" sites. And very sorry that dare preobresti Internet security. Yes, your free version is quite good in conjunction with a good firewall. But the Internet security simply ignored so much trouble that I honestly regretted that bought your paid program. More than 7 threats. Discovered then passing system HitmanPro_x64 and doctor Web. Scanning themselves Avast (on the most stringent settings) to no avail. And it's sad.) Then brutally unnerving spam additional packages that are unnecessary to me. The program gives the impression of a weak antavirusnoy utility. Lord as I think you need to change dramatically and hard approach to the project. Otherwise you will not raise your paid services. A good and will stay free utility. By the way, I would like to pay for your package is full of the best of your free utility, and my respect for you, in the free field of your utility is quite good. I sincerely wish your team still raise commercial products, well, at least until the Kaspersky or Bit Defender. Sincerely, your user.

Update on Win 7 stopped computer from booting.  I've tried pretty much every tip I've found on the web - uninstalled and reinstalled, uininstalled with standard uninstaller, with uninstall utility, with uninstall tool, with Revo.  - no luck.

Have had to revert to pre-'update' restore point.

Lots of stuff still in registry.

Eventually (two days), have given up and moved to alternative product.

As long-term user, would quite like to use Avast, but now impossible.  When I have time, I'd like to clear all Avast references from registry and maybe try to install again from scratch.

Any particular suggestions?

Regards

Run the Avast Uninstall Utility  (https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility)
Allow it to run in Safe mode
Run it for all the different versions you've had installed. Reboot your system and see if a clean install will now work.

Hello i have a problem in my site hXXp://mapige.immo
It hXXp://mapige.immo

This needs to go in the viruses and worms forum - https://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=4.0 (https://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=4.0) - as it is unrelated to this topic. Virus alerts and web alerts are in the Virus Definitions updates and as such unrelated to a program version. Someone can then check it out.

Please modify your URL so that it isn't active change the http to hXXp (as I have done in your quoted post).
