Title: Karma poll
Post by: .: Mac :. on January 04, 2004, 01:50:22 AM
Walker gave me the idea to start this poll

Sorry Mac ;D  You got your poll up first.  I'll delete mine.

I would like to see the one hour limit changed to once every 24 hours.  In other words, a user can only applaude or smite another user once a day instead of once an hour.

Let just say Brett is the smiter (hypothetically):

JULES
There's a passage I got memorized, seems appropriate for this
          situation: Ezekiel 25:17.

The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities
of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the
name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of
darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost
children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and
furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers.
And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon you.

The two men EMPTY their guns at the same time on the sitting BRETT.  ;D

The Avast! Team and all of the forum members are here to help anyone who's got a question or problem.  I think the karma system is a nice way to say "thank you" to those offering advice and I've done my share of clicking on "applaud".  I don't see the need for "smite" at all and I've never used it.

I voted to modify -- keep karma (with applaud) and get rid of "smite".

I agree on that too   ;D
for the info, Wilders security forums uses an 'applaud' link only.but no 'smite' link.
Dave, you got yourself a karma.  ;)

I voted "NO" (for the moment)

If the abuse keeps happening, i think there must be a solution found :

-disable the Karma stuff or disable the "smite button".

Amazing to see how low some people can go...although losing karma is not the end of the world, on the otherhand Karma does indicates that your being helpfull and gives a push in the back to keep supporting AVAST in this forum.

sad, really...

Waldo, I agree with you! :)
Most everyone that posts here is giving help--even me in what not to do to your computer ;D
When advice is freely and warmly given, there should be a karma...for the willingness to share expertise and knowledge.
To me, a smite is stabbing someone in the back for no apparent reason or a stupid reason...jealousy, difference of opinion, or just plain meanness. It serves no useful purpose. JMO

Walker,

I myself think that the Karma system is good for new users to guage the type of help and the type of person from whom it will come.

If a user feels that the person helping them was not up to par, then don't give a Karma!  The Smite is not necessary.

I am for removing it.  I agree with Cojo's remarks that some people do it just to be mean.

Culpeper,I like the bible stuff!   :)

Culpeper,I like the bible stuff!   :)

The smiter doesn't like it.  Apparently, he still feels the need to not act very nice.  The smiter is probably some little nerd with a biiiiiiiiig computer.  Come on Mr. Smiter?  Show yourself.  Be a real man instead of a little sniveling terrorist smiter.

The smiter awoke before dawn, he put his boots on
He took a face from the ancient gallery
And he strolled on down the hall
He went into the room where his sister lived, and...then he
Paid a visit to his brother, and then he
He strolled on down the hall, and
And he came to a door...and he looked inside
Father, yes son, I want to smite you
Mother...I want to...---- you

Pavel,

Can you please tell Culpeper who is smitting him and put a stop to all this childish krma issue.

I strongly object to his latest poem with the 'implication' towards my forum name. At the very least it is thoughtless.

Walker.. NOT walking.

Walker

You were the furthest thing from my mind when I put that poem up.  So, what's your problem?  Somehow you took the verb "walking" and applied it to a noun "Walker", and took personal offense?  If that's the case than it's your problem not mine and makes you a hypocrite for accusing this whole affair as being immature and childish.  If it doesn't concern you than just ignore it.  If the shoe fits, wear it!  Like a badge!

Culpeper,

That is where you are wrong, I took the word walked and applied it (as you put it) to my forum name.. not just a noun. Therefore, yes I see an 'association'. That's different from taking offense!. Furtherest from you mind or not, I consider it thoughtless.

If that's the case than it's your problem not mine and makes you a hypocrite for accusing this whole affair as being immature and childish.

If that made sense, I would respond.

If the shoe fits, where it!  Like a badge!

Another implication Culpeper, or just more thoughtlessness

You say you would like to retain the krma system (in some form or another), comments like yours will only ensure that Pavel removes the facility for everyone.

This place is a far cry from the head-injury groups where I started on the internet (and where I'm still a mod at one of them).  But might I be permitted to "import" something that almost always works wonders there?

((((Hugs)))) all around -- regardless of gender, ages and age-differences, and even number of people involved.  Sure, the smiting is a royal pain -- but I think we can probably agree that whoever's behind it is most likely not a regular here, even if he/she's been active enough to have acquired smite/applaud "ability".

C'mon, crew, let's stick together for problem-solving, which last I looked is why we're here.

As soon as people start become focused on things like krma the whole system falls to pieces.

The only trouble is, open forum bitching like this is more BIG points to the 'smitter  :'(  , who by the way has just taken two of my krma away unless this is peppered with some other anomousity

I am with Walker and Mike on this...

this has gotten way out of hand and needs to be put aside for the good of the group. we are here to help each other--don't I know that!!--and have occasional sillyness and mabe a bit of difference of opinion.

Can we all be grown people and shake hands and let go of it?

Culpeper,

You win and I give up. Now it appears that "everyone else" is wrong except you.

As I said earlier, I would hazzard a guess and assume Pavel will do away with the whole krma system after this and I wouldn't blame him at all.

I will leave it there in case there is a hope of salvaging it for the user's that want krma.. you carry on if you must.

You were wrong to accuse me of accusing you.  I know it, you know it, now the whole world knows it.  Don't place the wrath of the administrator and "everyone else" squarely on me.  It was your own schizophrenic paranoia that provoked this out-of-control or are you the type of prima donna that never takes responsibility for his own actions?  That it is always someone else's fault?  Always!  Based on what I have seen tonight I would bet that you have never taken responsibility for a single thing your entire life.  Associating "walking" with "Walker"!  What a joke!  And that is what this is all about.   You showed your true colors tonight.  Mr. Hyde cometh.

Culpeper,  Walker

Okay you guys.  Enough is enough.  This is getting out of hand and WAY OFF TOPIC.

No one meant any harm, especially Walker....I know him.

Culpeper, you know me from the forum and IMs.  I speak the truth.

It doesn't matter who really is "smitting".  Walker has no reason to do so, and it is not his nature.   Look what this is doing to us here!

The two of you accusing each other!  We are friends.  Walker's association of words may seem crazy to you, but that is the way he sees it.  Can't you just respect the way he looked at it all, and IM him to straighten it out?

Please...for me.

Thanks
techie

Added:  Remember guys, you two, me, Technical, and a few others are sort of a team on the forum.  Let us not destroy that over silly misunderstandings.
