Title: TuneupSvc Excessive CPU Usage Upon Startup
Post by: Patrick99 on October 27, 2018, 03:56:59 PM
Is there a command line switch available to delay the startup of tuneupsvc.exe?

I would like to control when the service is activated via the Windows Task Scheduler.

The service starts up using nearly 20% of the CPU for at least five minutes before it stabilizes.

What is happening during this startup phase? When I start the Avast Cleanup Premium app the scans are performed upon selection of options, so its initial startup does not seem to be caching results or anything beforehand.

Is the Tuneupsvc.exe even needed to use Avast Cleanup Premium? I do not need it to be running all the time.

OK, you can disable ACP startup in the settings.

OK, you can disable ACP startup in the settings.

I have the Show at Windows Startup option in the settings disabled.

This does not impact the startup at boot of the Avast Cleanup Service (tuneupsvc.exe). This service runs at high CPU utilization when it starts up for 5-7 minutes. What is it doing when it starts up? I have it set for Automatic (delayed start), but this is not enough of a delay to keep it from running during the boot process.

What is tuneupsvc.exe doing when it launches, running 5 minutes or more at nearly 20% CPU utilization?

Are there command line switches I can use to control the launch of this service via the Windows Task Scheduler? I would like it to launch sometime later than at boot time as it slows the time for the system to stabilize during the boot process.

Can't confirm/reproduce it here, wait for one of the devs and/or submit a ticket: https://support.avast.com/contact

Can I just add a comment here, tuneupsvc.exe is running full time on my system and sometimes takes up to 70% cpu processing.
Is this the same kind of thing the originator of this question is talking about?
Thank you

Indeed.

I eventually uninstalled the software. Am waiting for Avast to actually respond to the issue. "Submit" a ticket is a smokescreen to avoid commenting in public about the issue.

Hi,

this is really not the intended behavior and we are not even able to reproduce it internally on our machines.
It is true that Tuneupsvc.exe takes about 20% of CPU when it starts but it lasts only for couple seconds and then it drops to 0%.

We would appreciate if you could collect the log files and send them over so we can take a look at it and investigate it further.
You can simply send them by executing our log collector utility from this path C:\Program Files (x86)\AVAST Software\Avast Cleanup\tulogcollector.exe assuming that you have still Avast Cleanup installed on your computer.
Just please add your email address there so we can join the logs with your report here.

Thank you.
