-= Does it mean that G Data is better than avast..? than Bit Defender..?
-= How was it possible for G Data to copy the engine of avast..?
-
Of course they didn't "copy it" - they licensed it (just as other OEM partners).
So, G-Data uses avast! engine, and ALWIL Software gets some money from G-Data, of course ;)
-
but i think they don't use the most up-to date version... or? do they?
virusdatabase updates do directly come from avast and bitdefender, but what is with engine updates?
-
There is no special reason the (avast!, can't speak for bitdefender) engine should be older; they can request the current version of avast! engine at any time and include it into G-Data update.
In reality, I'd say it may be older simetimes, but also slightly newer other times.

Thank you very much for clarification!

-= So, in that case, lets say that if someone submits a false positive report to G Data.. It will also be sent to Alwil & Bit Defender.. Moreover.. Bit defender may take some of the virus definitions from Avast as well as avast to bit def..?
-
I can't speak for any of the parties but I would have thought in general that:
One of the attractions of buying the services of avast! and BitDefender would be that you didn't have to do virus analysis.
Cooperation protocols between antivirus vendors would be established directly rather than via a third-party repackager.

-= Well, that settles it.. thanks..

In the 2008 version, it used to use Avast and Kaspersky engines. But Kaspersky doesn't deliver its current engine, so G DATA has given up using the Kaspersky engine. And i think Avast+BitDefender is a better combo, the last AV-Test result confirms this too.
