Title: Unregistered Library
Post by: cadremis on February 16, 2010, 12:09:48 AM
I have Avast 5.0.418 in my computer, and it's updating and working fine, the problem is that today I wanted to check some settings in Avast and when I clicked statistics Avast does not show any graphics and gives me a msge saying Unregistered Library.

I went to control Panel/add and remove programs in order to fix it but still the same msge is shown.

Please see attached jpg.

I just realized that after the msge saying Unregistered library comes, I can't move Anything on Avast interface, it does not let me go to scan or do anything. rm

It came straight up for me, see image.

I assume that you do have flash installed ?

Try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, select 'avast! Anti-Virus,' click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow.

Guys,
I hate to say that I just can´t find a solution to my problem, after the Unregistered Library msge pop ups, there´s nothing I can do, I can't move inside Avast 5 interface, I uninstalled Avast 5.0.418 propperly and used CCleaner to erase the register, and I installed Avast 5.0.418 again, same problem, pop up msge unregistered library pops up, my computer is up to day, flash player, java and everything since I have the filehippo.exe that tells me when I need a new update, nothing missing so far.

I discovered this problem today when I wanted to full scan my computer and I just realized something else, in statistics (see I installed English language, so more people can help me) I have:
Script shield
Antispam
Firewall
I have another computer with XP Sp3 and these modules are not there, these belong to Avast 5 Pro and I downloaded Avast 5 Free Antivirus, besides now that I re-installed Avast 5 Free, I can´t even configure it because when I open Avast and I receive the Unregistered Library Pop Up I am no able to work with Avast 5 Interface.

Can any one Help me?

The problem is that the message isn't very helpful as it doesn't say what library is unregistered, then it would be possible to try and start it.

Those shields in your image aren't in the Pro version (well script shield is) either, to be there I think at some time the AIS must have been installed on your system (I don't have these, see image) ?
It may be that one of the AIS libraries it is referring to.

Run the avast5 uninstall tool (see below) again from safe mode, it has a drop down list of other avast applications and select the one for Avast Internet Security, once complete, I would suggest also running it again for avast 5.0 free, then reboot and install avast free if that is the one you want.

Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, find it here (http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility) ensure you get the version5 one, aswClear5.exe and save it to your HDD.

I did exactly what you told me, no succes, uninstalled Avast5free/pro/ais in safe mode, came back installed same pop up msge Avast Ui Unregistered library, I can do anything in the avast interface, I went to repair no success, tried to mofied Avast 5 no succes, I can´t even configure Avast.

Is there anything more I can provide so you can help me out of this trouble, I remember last week I saw statistics in Avast 5 Free very well..

Still seeing I have Firewall, Antispam and Scrip shield and I downloaded Avast 5 free, I have never installed Avast Pro or Suite in this computer...

Heeeeeeeeeeeeellllllllllp!

I really don't know what else to suggest.

You didn't say if you had at some time installed AIS, as that really can be the only reason why those Firewall and Antispam entries are there (and I would say they are possibly settings in the registry), the script shield could be there is you had the pro version at any point, but would also be there if you had AIS.

You said you uninstalled, Avast5free/pro/ais in safe mode, presumably with the aswclear5.exe, Now I don't know if you did them in that order, but I suggested AIS, pro, etc. as I don't know if because there are remnants of AIS it is important to run that first. I simply don't have the inside knowledge of the new products as I'm just an avast user like yourself.

You could try running a registry cleaner, but you would have to do that without what avast version you have uninstalled otherwise the self-defence module would protect its entries. The need for the uninstall comes from if you can't get into the UI, Settings, Troubleshooting and disable the self-defence module; if you can disable it them you should be able to run a registry cleaner and see if it finds any redundant avast AIS entries.

Uninstall.
Reboot to safe mode.
Run aswclear5.
Run CCleaner.
Delete all Alwil folders (C:\Programs and C:\Program Data) if still present.
Reboot normally.
Run setup file (right click: run as administrator) for avast free.
Reboot.

DavidR
I have never installed Avast Por or the Complete Suite in my computer before, I have been always home and free Avast user.

Let me correct the registry and see if it finds something like that unchecking the self defense module in Avast 5.

I really continue to ask myself why modules in Pro or the Complete Suite are in my computer, and the problem gets worse because after that Avast Ui Unregistered Library I can´t move anything in Avast 5 interface.

Zyndstoff,
I have done that twice so far and I'm the administrator in this Xp computer.

Hope some from Alwil Team reds this and try to help me since I can´t find a solution and I do not find anyone having my same problem.

You used aswclear5 already? Hmmm...
Did you download the setup file anew before the new installation?
Have you registered the free version yet?
If the Gui blocks: try the back/forward arrows up left... that worked for me in one of the early betas, when the GUI was stucked.

1.-You used aswclear5 already?  YES
2.-Did you download the setup file anew before the new installation? YES
3.-Have you registered the free version yet?  NO THE PROBLEM STARTED IN A REGISTERED VERSION OF AVAST 5.0.418
4.-If the Gui blocks: try the back/forward arrows up left... that worked for me in one of the early betas, when the GUI was stucked. IT DOESN´T WORK FOR ME

Yes, it's a weird problem. I ran out of ideas... definetly need an dev here.

I don't know much about the GUI, so I can just guess... since it's on the Statistics page, it might be (corrupted) Flash installation. I'm not aware of any other library that might need registering...
I'd try reinstalling Flash, or at least finding the Flash library in System folder and running regsvr32.exe library_file.
Just a guess though.

There must be some problems more deeper... He is using the free version... then look at the dropdown snapshot he posted right here http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=55745.msg471018#msg471018 (http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=55745.msg471018#msg471018)

You're right, it's strange... though I'm not completely sure it's related (to the error message).
Well, dumping the AvastUi.exe process (with avast! self-defense disabled) and uploading the dump... might reveal some more info.

Those entries are weird! They must be the clue to the problem. I have AIS installed, I skipped the firewall during installation, and it doesn't show up. See shot.

Okay, how about this very last idea:

Download AIS trial version.
Install AIS.
Reboot.
Uninstall AIS.
Reboot to safe mode.
Run aswclear5.
Run CCleaner.
Delete all alwil/avast folders on the pc.
Reboot.
Redownload avast free (make sure it is the free).
Install.
Reboot.

Personally it would be better to try what Igor is suggesting as that will provide them with useful information when the avastUI hangs/freezes and the dump is generated.

That may help find the true cause, where if what we try outside of that resolves the problem it is a missed opportunity as the information could help others, not to mention, what has happened to cadremis could in theory happen again if the cause isn't resolved.

Well, to be honest: I believe it is not really a bug. He said he never installed the AIS, but only the free version. I simply don't believe that. Maybe he misdownloaded the wrong setup-file first.
There is no sense in that AIS features showing up in his GUI without having installed at some time the AIS...

I have been playing around with everything here without uninstalling anything,

1.-I have re-installed Flash Player (last version)

Avast does not Freeze, I can still use my computer, Avast 5 updates very well, I can scan (quick and complete) Avast 5 it's working, I have even configured it, I registered it, my problem starts when I go to Statistics, the msge pops up the Avast Ui Unregistered library (error unknown) after that I can move inside the Avast 5 free interface only if I checked some modules before using the back and forward arrows, one example is that if I re-start my computer, open Avast 5 free interface and go to Maintenance, Real Time Shields and then Statistics, I can only get back to Maintenance and Real Time Shields, and I am not allowed to clic something else in the interface, but Avast does not freeze it continues to spin and work very well, I know that when I reestart the computer if I want to do something I should not go to Statistics first, otherwise I won't be able to do anything.

After I discover this problem, I have re-installed Avast 5 free 3 times and I have 2 times downloaded the free versión from the original spanish Avast provides and the last time from softonic, still getting the same error.

Can someone tell me what to do or what to provide the developers in order to fix this? I have never had problems with the last versions of Avast and I was able to clic everywher in the Avast interface without having any problem.

Please advise...rm

@ Zyndstoff
Personally I  have to take cadremis's word that he didn't install AIS, which is really hard to do accidentally and not know about it.

I also defer to Igor's greater knowledge of avast 5.0, even though he protests he doesn't know much about the GUI ;D

Probably Vlk can help me with this if Igor does know have much knowledge about Avast Ui problems....

I feel confident that Avast 5 free is protecting my computer and I  and won´t go to another free antivirus solutions just because Statistics does not let do anything after clicking on it.

I have used Avast for more than 4 years and I'm still happy with it and recommend it very much to my friends everywhere, nobody has claimed about it.

I just need help to understand what is happening here, it probably can help others in the future with the same problem, so if you need me to do something else, provide you with some information I´m just waiting some one who tells me what to do as I have done so far.

Okay, how about this very last idea:

Download AIS trial version.
Install AIS.
Reboot.
Uninstall AIS.
Reboot to safe mode.
Run aswclear5.
Run CCleaner.
Delete all alwil/avast folders on the pc manually.
Reboot.
Redownload avast free (make sure it is the free).
Install.
Reboot.

This is my only idea.
Maybe additionally uninstall WinPatrol and Outpost as well before reinstalling avast. One never knows...
If that won't do, we need a dev.

I give up!,
I uninstalled Avast 5 propperly again, uninstalled winpatrol, uninstalled, Outpost Firewall, removed the remaining envelopes from each software, corrected the registry, installed Avast 5 free before anything

Still the same problem, same error in statistics and still showing there antispam, firewall and script shiled statistics....

No need to attach new jpgs, they are the same I attached before.

Vlk,
I really need your help, I know you guys are bussy but I have done everything people here has requested with no success.

I´m still willing to cooperate providing you as much information I can....

Try reinstalling the flash plugin.
Just download and run this: http://fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player_ax.exe

...he already did that, Vlk.
And his free versions shows signs of the AIS in the staistics page drop down. I don't think it's a flash problem.

Perhaps you could walk him through the above Vlk (creating a dump file and sending it in). I know you have provided diections for this in the forum before, but I dont know exactly where so I cannot provide a link. I'm dying to see this issue resolved myself.

Also I wouldn't give up on it being problem related to Flash player.
What about look in Control Panel > Internet Options > Settings (Browsing history) > View objects - to see if anything broken that might be interfering with Flash (just a wild guess).

If it was a flash problem... the error should occur when opening the GUI, since he's using the free version and there is a flash-animated promotion for the PRO/AIS update...
But it doesn't. It onla happens when he calls the statistics page - and that shows up with these weird AIS-dropdown-list-features that definetely shouldn't be there.

False. The ad doesn't use flash.

Okay - however, he stated he can do anything, as long as he doesn't go to statistics.
But the Shield-pages also use flash... True?
And no prob there.

Thank you Lord for listening to my prayers, thanks Vlk for this solution.

I downloaded the file you just provide, It installed very quick after that I opened Avast 5 interface and went to Statistics and "voila" problem corrected.

I would like to hear what you did or tell us what's the file you provided, since I went to reintalled the last version of Flash Player from its page and it didn't work.

Check the jpg I have justed attached.... happy, happy, happy days, are here again.

I'm taking a deep bow, Vlk.

But, could you explain how the symptoms (e.g. firewall showing up in the statistics drop-down of the free version) fit to a faulty flash installation? Where is the link? It would be good to know for all of us to give advice / explanation in future threads.

Thx
