Title: Avast and Firefox....
Post by: Raveen Kool on June 20, 2011, 09:25:00 PM
WHY NO STAND ALONE, DOWNLOADABLE AVAST WEB REP ADD-ON FOR FIREFOX.....

IT ONLY COMES AS A PACKAGE WITH AVAST PRODUCTS...

JUST A SUGGESTION.....

 ;)

Presumably because a) they want to retain control over it and b) it is a feature of avast. In the future when it has additions from the virus labs is another reason why it would remain a feature of avast.

Your CAPS LOCK key appears to be stuck or it is considered shouting.

I thought that avast web rep can be used by non avast users and they would experience the power of user based website rating like WOT....

And I didn't know using the CAPS LOCK key meant shouting...oops.... :P

It can't be installed unless you have an xpi file for it and that isn't in the firefox/mozilla add-ons site, you have no settings in firefox, it can't be updated in firefox, it can't be saved in firefox using something like FEBEs add-on.

Effectively it isn't stand alone (you have little control over it) and isn't being offered as such. Offering it as a stand alone add-on won't show the strength of avast as it currently has nothing to do with security, but reputation alone and that from 'avast' users.

So if they want to see the power of avast, they only have to try it as the web shield and network shields are of a much greater importance.

And how to adapt the existing facility Webrep from Avast to rapidly changing FireFox, or could not develop the company Avast is a tool to proactively to the release of FireFox?

Sound very interesting only when it available and we may have to wait and see how this version might preform better than any other web browser  ;)

If you can't beat it, join it.
I gave up on compatibility of addons in Firefox: I enter the nightly update channel. Worse for the addons ;D

it relates to Avast! webrep...  as the topic is "Avast and Firefox"  but if there was a update button on the webrep tab it would maybe be faster to fix the Firefox problem

The problem is with Firefox, not avast or avast's webrep.

Anyhow, I installed AVG Link Scanner alongside WebRep just before upgrading to FF6. With the Add-on compatibility reporter, WebRep is working in FF6, AVG Link Scanner isn't ::)

Good thing Alice is still in NY and not looking over my sholders while I'm reading this.  ;D
A walk on the beach would be nice provided I don't have to change into a bathing suit.  :)

We have a date the next time I get back to Germany.
(Since 1953, I managed to be there once because the trip from Prague to San Francisco in Feb., changed planes in Munich.)

Sorry to take this totally off topic...  :'(
