For me, it will always be Windows for user interface and many other things ;D I grew up with it since I was a kid. So what there's a lot of secrity holes? It's not Windows' fault if you get a virus.
And Macs are overpriced :(
-
Mac i feel its scam but in another way its beautiful. But if you want to do everything you must choice Windows of course.

Agreed :D

Windows 7 (currently) and Linux (Slackware or openSUSE).
-
Windows 7!!! ;D ;D

Windows 7. I don't want to sound like a fanboy but Windows gets a bad rap. Yes it's $200 for the cheapest non-OEM one, but assuming you used it for 4 years before upgrading to Windows 8, that's only $50 a year. Also, almost all software works with Windows. Also better hardware support. I experimented with Linux and could not get a video card driver for my less than a year old video card. Yes I had a GUI always, but couldn't enjoy my monitor's full resolution. Also user-friendliness. MAC OS X is okay, but Linux again is horrible. The average user shouldn't have to mess with the command line or have to search online just to get basic things to work. Lastly, I know how to fix Windows if something goes wrong, though not always. MAC or Linux, I'm screwed!

The best are the ones I have... I mean... Windows 7 and Ubuntu 11.04.
I could never put my hands on a Mac, I mean, all the times I need to replace my computer I receive another PC :)
-
Windows 7.
-
Well, all I can say is that I know plenty of people with Windows 7 and it looks and works great...! :D As for Linux, well, since nobody I met has/or even had this OS, it looks like I can't say anything about it.
But for me, Windows XP is the best ^^ or maybe Vista, since my other laptop has it...?
Anyways, it's Windows!

That's my current setup at home, and I like both of them a lot. At the office, it's been the Ubuntu LTS versions - Dapper, Hardy, and now Lucid. One of our kids is a Apple fan, and I use an iMac when I visit. It's a nice operating system, and the hardware is beautiful, but, I wouldn't have any interest living in Steve Jobs' walled garden, so, Microsoft and Linux are enough for me.

Windows 7 most of the time. Google's Chrome OS some of the time when I'm using the cr-48. :)

I heard it's coming VERY soon to England....need to check it out 8)

I would say, Windows 7 for me. I never really liked XP, not sure why...
I find myself throwing windows about trying to get them to maximise on every machine I use...it's become second nature almost.
There are some things that I do like about other OSes though, having used linux a little, and a mac even less.
In linux, I like the way the scrolling works. (whatever window you hover over can be scrolled, active or not)
In mac, I like the way that some of the F buttons have clever features (like show all windows etc), and putting the mouse in one corner of the screen can invoke an action...
Just little things that are well thought out, that make an impression when you use them, and there are probably apps that can emulate the same, but never really looked...
-
I love Linux Mint.
But I have to use windows for testing my developing applications that occurs on linux.
-
i didnt like windows when they cut dos out of the picture but i dunno im liking windows 7 and the only apple OS i liked was from an apple//c
-
I guess you can't really argue over opinions....heh. I never knew so many Avast users even have Linux or are familiar with it!
In addition to XP I also like Windows Vista, Windows ME and down. (You know, the really old ones....probobaly cos they weren't too complicated like now.) I think I used to have Windows 95 and 98 too (it was AGES ago, so I'm not really sure.) I think I sound like a real fan of Windows ;) :D
-
Mac OS X :)
I can get anything done on my Mac that I can do on a Windows 7 Machine, without the headaches ;D

Since it's convenient, easy-to-use and stable, I like Windows 7 very much.

*wishes for Windows 7 now*

I think your in the minority on that opinion. :)

I like Xp, 7, and vista. Although I'm comfortable with any OS, those are my favorites.

Sound's like someone needs to relearn computers, i certainly dont regret moving up to win 7 ;D
-
It depends on your needs. For me the OS of choice is Win 7.

Yeah, you're right XP is the best OS, until 2 years ago...
Don't you think 9 or 10 years are a bit too old for an OS? I think it's time to move on now...

Linux is used by more supercomputers than any other OS
Supercomputing Freakonomics - Finding Meaning Beyond the Headlines
By jzemlin - June 24, 2011 - 7:19am
Twice a year, the Top500 Project publishes its list of the fastest supercomputers in the world. In the last announcement, we continue to see Linux dominating the list. This is nothing new since Linux has been dominating since the mid-2000s. In fact, Linux share in supercomputing looks a lot like Microsoft’s historical share of the desktop market. I thought it would be interesting to take a step back and look at the performance capability of these computers as a whole and also how the rise of Linux is mirroring the geographical expansion of supercomputers.

XP ? was good in past BUT now ITS Windows 7 you try you love it. Like me i do now.
Pretty light and fast for a OS and old pc can enjoy it its like feeling to got a CORE I7... If you dont feel that its either you that .... lol ;D or its me that i did install great my Windows 7.
Vista is great also no problem, similar to Windows 7 just few changes
XP aint bad but if you can afford a new OS or want a new one then look my first word into up and you can choice a great one.

The more I learn 7, the less I like it. :( And the more I long for XP. :'(

I have yet to be impressed by win7, yes there are some useful functions, but I wouldn't call them crucial must have. But overall I still prefer XP Pro, I certainly have more control over it, that computer seems to belong to me and not the OS.
-
rdmaloyjr,
If you currently have Windows 7 on your system, you can always install XP on a seperate partition.
If you have XP, then unless you're constantly using Win 7 elsewhere, you can't really fairly judge.
There is always a learning curve. There certainly was such a learning curve when XP first came out. :)
-
Yeah, you're right XP is the best OS, until 2 years ago...
Don't you think 9 or 10 years are a bit too old for an OS? I think it's time to move on now...
I totally agree! I'm waiting for M$ to come out with an os that's better than XP.
I have a feeling that it's going to be a very long wait. ::)
-
Indeed I feel Windows 7 much better than XP... But much much better... Maybe it's because my computer is also better than when I was using XP ;D
-
BTW, the harddrive in my XP machine went out again.
I'm using it with a Live Puppy Linux CD, very fast. :)
-
It's a shame I can't afford W7 :( Boo. But Windows XP, after all these years, is doing just fine. (Apparently, it's "death" will be in 2014 when Windows will no longer update it.)
But I know it as a lot of people I know have it. I also have Vista, but it's really slow and "kind of" complicated....as in "the OS has a mind of its own and doesn't belong to me.." that's what I feel like anyway. But I must admit from what I see and experience that Windows 7 is really light and fast. Kind of better Vista. And the graphics are amazing.

People...if I remember correctly MicroSoft took the best of XP and the best of Vista and got rid of all the bad things of both and created Windows 7. So you get the best of both worlds. :)
And I love Win7 over Vista any day. 8)

:D
Shame on me...I used to think Win7 was actually rubbish (British speaking person here ::)). Dunno why, I just felt it.
But I guess the more I use it somewhere, then the more interesting it seems.
^^
Windows XP is actually more present in places like work, schools, and library computers, since it's cheaper than Vista or Win7, but it's still very popular.
