Hi all,
I'm glad to announce the general availability of a new avast program update, version 6.0.1367.
Here's a list of most important changes:
- Script Shield now works with Google Chrome, all versions of Firefox and Acrobat Reader
- Improvements in WebRep plugins (especially IE)
- Stability improvements in aswSP.sys and the avast! sandbox
- File system shield: improved on-close scanning
- avast! Internet Security: new antispam engine
- Web Shield and Script Shield: more options in the UI
- Added in-product avast! Market
- Various other security and stability related fixes
Special thanks goes to everyone who helped testing the beta builds.
It is recommended to upgrade to this latest version by using the in-product updater.
Alternatively, you can use these direct download links:
Free AV: http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/setup_av_free.exe
Pro AV: http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/setup_av_pro.exe
IS: http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/setup_ais.exe
Note: If you have any problems with this new version, please do NOT post to this thread; start a new topic instead. Ideally one topic per issue.
Thanks

Cool. The beta was working flawlessly for me (apart from the initial problem with the beta updater). Upading all my systems...
-
Hi,
thanks for the final one, seems to work stable, at least on my PC using IS.
Just one small, unimportant question (guess we dont need an extra thread for it ;)): Will the term avast! Market be localized to each language or does it stay as is? And thanks to the translators for localizing "Scan traffic from well-known browser processes only", since for some situations it became a vital option.
For German users interested, we put up some translation of the 6.0.1367 release notes (http://forum.avadas.de/threads/3687-avast!-6-0-1367).

Same her no problems in the beta builds, and just updated to 6.0.1367 from the 6.0.1364 beta and no problems.
-
The avast! Market will definitely be translated - at least to the ~14 languages our website is currently available in.
Edit: sorry, I misunderstood the question. See my answer below.
Thanks

- avast! Internet Security: new antispam engine
Can you give us a little more details?
-
NVM i did solve the problem :D
-
Will the term avast! Market be localized to each language or does it stay as is?
I've decided to keep the homogeneity and let it there as is.
avast WebRep, EasyPass, Market... was kept this way as they're more or less brand names imho.

Huh, sorry, I misunderstood the original question. I thought the question was about the market itself (the contents) - not the name.
The term "avast! Market" will stay as it is in most languages (some exceptions may apply).
Thanks

Any more details on 'Stability improvements in aswSP.sys'
I still watch hoping for 'fix' for my BSOD's - oddballs not reproducible.

We fixed all known issue that could lead to an BSOD.
If you were experiencing any BSODs with the latest version, I'd strongly recommend updating to this latest build asap.
Thanks

Updated my systems now.
I had BSODs on Vista many many times so I upgraded to Windows 7 64bit without a BSOD.

Thanks for the update, VLK. Unfortunately, I must report a bug. I updated over b1289 using the installer (not via GUI) and the installer TOTALLY ignored my prev. version, didn't offer the usual options "upgrade - uninstall - repair", it behaved as if I had no AV AT ALL.
I hope you can fix this ASAP.
bye!
PD: The SUMo problem under xp64 is still not fixed.
-
Smooth install...looks good...thanks Vlk! :D
-
Updated over previous beta :) Now it works seamlessly...
However I had a problem with previous beta when I do play Flash games on Google Chrome. It was lagging my PC. But now everything is fine with OFFICIAL release :)
Cheers...
-
Thanks Avast! everything went very smoothly, working fine. Installed from previous beta product.
Thanks.
-
Thanks for the update, everything working fine so far, including autosandbox.
Glad I can help finding the bug. :)

Vlk or Igor, what exactly was improved for the on-close scanning? Nothing special, i'm just curious.
@jvidal
Interesting, there was the same problem with the first beta version, but they fixed that later.

Actually, this is how it now behaves. The installer doesn't explicitly give you the "Update" option, but all your settings and licenses are kept when you do the install (so effectively, it is the same).
However, this has some advantages. For example, when you now download the IS installer a run it on top of Avast Free AV, it will indeed update the installation to an IS trial. Previously, it wouldn't do anything.
Thanks

Problem with Java Runtime Environment 1.6.0_29 (current version). Java applets run in browsers (Opera or Google Chrome) and fail and hang system or run and hang system. The lovely Java applet on www.thewoodheadsite.org.uk will not run at all (view this if you like railways). The Tweak Test applet on www.dslreports.com ran but the system hanged.
I am running Windows XP Pro SP3. I updated from Avast! free 6.0.1289 to 6.0.1367.
System also running Agnitum Outpost Firewall Pro 7.5.1. System works perfectly with Avast! free 6.0.1289 and I can view www.thewoodheadsite.org.uk in all its glory.
ADDENDUM
I find that this problem also occurs with the bare bones Outpost Firewall Free (no Web Control, etc.)

Hello, I Have a question regarding the new processes' exclusion in the Web Shield.
Just in case I want to exclude all the executables of an application, could I add for example this line in Process to Exclude:
C:\Program Files\Online Armor\*
Will it work? Or maybe should I need to add all the executables one by one?
Thank you in advance

Sorry, that would not work! You must list each executable you want to exclude from scanning.

I supposed so... WebShield works with processes eh?
-
Thank you very much for your prompt replies, lukor and Tech.
So if I understand correctly I must add each executable I want to exclude from scanning. It's not currently possible to exclude whole folders.
-
It's not currently possible to exclude whole folders.
And I don't think it would be in a near future. File Shield can exclude folders/files. Web Shield works with processes (executables running) so I think the exclusion will need to be done one by one, like Lukor said.

Any idea when this is going to pushed through the automatic update channel assuming we have the "automatic update" option checked in update settings?

Generally, program updates are released on 7-day cycle to balance the server loads (~180 million users).
-
Updated from within Avast this morning. Apparently when it is done that way, the updater
must just overwrite the old files with the new ones, as an actual setup installer does not run.
Works good that way. And I usually download the full installer to keep in case it is needed.
-
as an actual setup installer does not run.
Which program are you installing?
Did you install any other language?
-
Thanks for the update VLK i will update my laptop once i get home on 3rd december ;D

Hi Vlk:
Installed new version and it is working flawless.......no problems whatsoever. Great job Avast, keep up the good work. And thanks to all the beta testers. ;D

Hi everybody,
In france, we've got a problem when a yahoo mail is sent to sfr mail. Avast delete the message with the reason "Multiple Content-Type header - HIGH DANGER!"
Apparently, with the news version the problem disappear.
Do you know if a change have been done in 6.0.1367 related to MIME parameter for Email agent?
Thanks
-
I use Avast Free 6.0.1367 just updated this morning .. English only.
I do not run the Setup file, just save it in case I ever need it to do a
full install of the program. I did the update from within Avast.

Mail shield
If i look at"real time shields">"mail shield" it should give the number of emails scanned
The counter has stopped working and permanently shows 0
could somebody enlighten me please.
thanks

Thank you for Avast Free 6.0.1367

Since you have added the "Market", then why is still advertising in the main window? (I mean the free version). I think "what too much is not healthy" and in this case, I mean advertising. Do not give advice to reduce the number of these ads? Because I think that when you add the bookmark, they are unnecessary. Avast isn't growing popularity thanks to the ads, only that it is really wonderful.
Greetings.

Thanks for the clarification, VLK. Now, what about the "uninstall / repair" options?
In deed, all my settings were kept, just seems weird the way the installer behaved, looked like it ignored my prev installation.
thanks!
-
Updated immediately after i saw this on Facebook. ;D
-
update went fine here as well. keep up the good work avast team.
-
Update went smoothly thanks to Vlk and the Avast Team.
-
The update went smoothly through Avast updater. Kept all my settings. Two things though. I have Avast in English but the new " Market " tab shows the adds in Spanish, and Comodo D+ detected " aswRegSvr.exe " when Comodo D+ has never detected it before.
Regards.
-
I just updated to version 6.0.1367 and everything is working well.

Again the visual bug in Avast GUI is discovered. To reproduce it, make the following steps:
1) Open the Avast main window and go to the tab with types of scans (screenshot 1)
2) Expand the field with scan from Windows Explorer ... this error occurs when you move the scrolling bar down, but if you move it up or expand the window so that the scroll bar has disappeared, error does not appear (screenshot 2)
3) Close the window
4) Re-open the window: the scrolling bar disappeared and the Quick scan field is hidden under the tab's title (screenshot 3)
5) Expand any other field and the scrolling bar returns (screenshot 4)
This bug was noticed by Russian-speaking users in Avast Free and AIS on Vista and Windows 7 from version 6.0.1203 to version 6.0.1367, please correct this error!

Updated through the 1289 GUI on all 3 machines and everything is fine.

Wow. The French version was never well-translated, but the two items in the avast! Market take mistranslations to a whole new level.
You have 180 millions of users, don't you think some of your 180 employees (since you like to keep a 1 million to 1 ratio, which is a good thing) should be translators? Like, professional translators who know that "troubleshooting" is not a word in French?
-
Like, professional translators who know that "troubleshooting" is not a word in French?
I won't be so hard with the translators that give their time and effort to that.
If the translation was so bad, we will see a lot of complains here in forum and that not seems to be case.
Of course, all suggestions are welcome.
By the way, there will be an "extra" difficulty of homogeneity in such a large group of translators.

Wow! This .1367 update has dramatically increased my IE8 browser speed. It's running so fast I am beginning to wonder if web shield is actually working ................
-
Error 6008 in the 1367 version .... nothing change :-[
Same problem with the last version 1367 !. I have the problem since the 1289 version.
Not serious by avast >:( ... 2 months to wait for another update ... abused!
All is OK, if I kill the service avast before I restart or close my PC. The problem is avast
-
this update is a step in the right direction, meaning it works better than previous 6.0x builds.. now bring on version 7! ;D

Thanks

Update is working fine for me, thanks Avast team.

Updated my 2 machines (one from latest beta and other from build 1289) and both are working flawlessly.
Thanks avast! Team :)

Thanks that fixed this error and take into account our observations.
I also want to give some suggestions about SafeZone:
1) firstly, it has no settings, which is pretty sad for computer security in SafeZone.
2) secondly, when you exit the SafeZone clipboard is not cleared and all the passwords I entered or copied, remain in memory and on the clipboard, it is unacceptable and outrageous for SafeZone!
3) Third, would not prevent the existence of a "digital" keyboard (such as to Kaspersky) for enter passwords and ensuring the safe operation against spyware!
4) Fourth, in SafeZone the ability to run even text files (with passwords) through a sandbox environment.
It was first reported there (http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=81028.msg663366#msg663366) and then confirmed for German localization (http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=81028.msg663387#msg663387).

-
This is going to sound stupid, but since downloading the new version, my virus scans are going much faster.
Like a Quick Scan that used to take 6 minutes now is finished between 45 seconds and 2 minutes.
Is that normal?
Last time Avast scanned that quickly was when a virus in my system corrupted it. I am probably just being paranoid though.
-
Thanks avast! for this release.
I updated from .1289 to .1367 via the program interface hoping the "6008 error" (unexpected shutdown) would not show up again like in all the "betas" in-between.
Since update to .1367 I had 4 def. updates with shutdowns and/or reboots afterwards and guess what:
No "6008 error" anymore!
Is it now just a mystery, because everyone complaining had that behaviour also in version .1289 except for me, or did you find that little devil and killed it?

No, I wasn't suggesting the users should change their screen resolutions *permanently*. I was suggesting to do it for a simple test, which can eventually give more information to the developers to solve the problem.
This is not just for this case, but for any case where a problem arises, so to narrow down the source of it. In this case, it WAS a GUI problem, so asking from a user to test a different resolution and report back seems not *that* extreme to me.
Making a test with a particular (temporal) change so to report back about it is not asking the user to change their "way of life".

Normal for the quick scan is slower since the last update?

Updated through right-clicking and Update Program after getting the pop-up notice. All is great. Thanks Avast!

Updated through gui and all working fine on Windows Home XP SP3. Nice job, Thanks.
-
Regarding the problem I reported earlier with using the Java Runtime Environment 1.6.0_29 with Avast! free 6.0.1367, I have tested various things and believe that the problem is connected with the use of Sandboxie (version 3.62). The difficulty seems to be with Sandboxie while closing the process running under the control of Sandboxie.
I have not encountered any other problems so far. I reported this to the Sandboxie people.
POSTSCRIPT: This is a Sandboxie problem pure and simple. The use of JRE is a coincidence. Sandboxie hangs the system when closing the process uner its control, in this case a web browser (Opera, Google Chrome or Internet Explorer) whether or not JRE has been used.

Everytime I want to manually perform an "program update" (I select this option always to update my definitions), my gadgets disappear from desktop and I have to reenable them. This does not happen when I try to to perform an 'Engine and virus definitons update'
I'm runing Avast! Free 6.0.1367 (latest version) on Windows 7 Professional SP1 x86
Also, I mention that I don't have the Avast! gadget installed.

Thats been a known problem for many months i believe, not a big issue though as you dont have to run a program update very often, only when there is a new release which you can discover here on the forums or you would also be notified by a ( blue ) avast popup or by opening the UI once in a while to check.
When there actually is a program update the system will reboot after updating and the sidebar will return on it's own.

You may be right, but the majority of users prefer to do the all in one update just to make sure that everything is up to date every time they check, without enetering the forums to see if there's something new.
Anyway, let's face it that it is a bug, and it would be nice if it would be corrected when a new version is ready. Maybe the programmers forgot about this. I can't understand how this can happen... if Avast check's it's own files, why does it conflict with Windows Gadgets?
