Permission to Remain at Sr. Member Ranking
« on: November 10, 2012, 04:41:24 AM »
I'm wondering if anyone has ever asked for a freeze on their rank?  Result of request?

Thank you.

May I ask why do you want to freeze you're current rank, and you do not wish to earn the next level soon.

Thank you for showing an interest, SpeedyPC.

I just don't much care for ranks when it applies to me.

Not to be misunderstood, in that, I don't have any problem with other folks seeking and gaining ranks, of any kind, in any environment, but for me personally I don't like it.  This has been something that has been going on for many years and has manifested itself in a few real life environments -- organizations, if you will.

And Sr. Member matches my age rather than any knowledge level and suits me just fine for the remainder of my time at Avast, may it be another couple decades -- knock on wood.

To freeze you're current rank I'm not sure it can be done it up to the Moderator at the higher level, I understand how you feel within you're age bracket I wouldn't worry to much about it as you have about 141 more post count to reach you're next rank.

However I would rather wait for the Moderators to have their say before you make you're final choice.

I'm sorry, Tech, I don't understand your post.

I didn't write I don't mind.  I wrote I don't care for having rank, if it's possible to avoid it.

And this thread is meant to ask if there is any way to freeze my rank.  Is your post an official response from the Avast Team indicating it's not possible for my rank to be frozen as is?

Thank you.

Ranks does say a little about his experience in the forum but yes ranks aren't important the answers and the help they render is important.
I wouldn't mind anyone's rank... :)

For the majority all it says about you is how many post you have made that is how the forum ratings work, http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=93015.0, with two exceptions avast! Evangelist and avast! Überevangelist.

Since these rankings are determined by post count I don't know how you can freeze your post count. The forum software isn't particularly flexible and it is SMF forum software not avast's software.

That's not possible AFAIK.

Okey-dokey, folks.  Appreciate the responses.  Just thought I'd ask.  One doesn't know until one asks, right?

What if I started a User ID "ManyQs II" -- would I get in trouble?  Maybe, eh?

Check out the "Forum Information" topic near the top of the list in this subforum for a fuller discussion of the difference between post-count "ranks" (you're probably stuck with yours, unless you re-register under a new name as you'd suggested -- and don't forget you'd lose several important abilities until you'd reached 20 posts if you go that route) and group memberships.  The main reason for adding groups was that too many members (and even visitors) more or less equated post-count rank with helpfulness and knowledge.

I'm relatively senior myself both in age (not quite 67) and years active here, but my Evangelist rating (group membership) has nothing to do with that ... while I've probably asked for help far more often over the years than I've been able to offer it, I'm proud and grateful for others considering me an Evangelist.
