Thanks for the suggestion Tech, the Microsoft forum was great. I managed to get it fixed and I now see that familiar yellow shield in the taskbar. Turns out I did have to play around in the registry (not something I wanted to do).

Just a side note but now I have this back I am being prompted to install SP3, Is there anything I should do before doing this?

As long as your computer is malware free, yes, you should install SP3.

Is there a windows vista update or is the home version works for all version of windows

The Home version works from Windows 95 to Vista, passing through 98, Me, 2k and XP ;)
