Avast malware warning stuck
« on: December 21, 2009, 12:01:01 AM »
HELP!!!  I have a nasty issue, and am NOT very tech savvy. The Avast virus warning came up warning of malware. Even when I told it to delete or move to chest, the window just kept popping up. I don't remember all the different issues it described, but at least one was root.kit. Then the mouse froze in the middle of my screen. Because the Avast window is always on top, I can't do anything--system restore, downloading other AVs onto my desktop, etc. NO MOUSE. Also, the laptop refuses to open in safe mode. I am just sick at what I may have lost. ANY HELP FOR THE NON-TECH PANICKER???

Will not open in Safe Mode, or will not respond to F8 key or other to bring up the option to choose safe Mode?

If respond to F8 and brings up the option, then try boot into 'last known good configuration'.

downloading other AVs onto my desktop,
Do you have more than one AV on your computer?....... if so this may be the problem

Using more than one anti-virus program is not advisable.
