MS Outlook Pop3 error after Avast update

Have just been trouble shooting a friends PC after emails stopped coming in to Outlook 2003 earlier this week.
Webmail & SMTP outgoing was OK, but POP3 incoming email errors occurred. 
The Error apparently originally related to Norton AV, but disabling Avast (free) temporarily fixed the problem - have left email scanning off in the meantime.

are you saying the machine have Norton and avast installed ?



never run multiple AV...and disable one is not enough, you need to uninstall
it is also recomended to run a removal tool to clear any leftover files that can conflict
