Protection query
« on: October 31, 2004, 10:30:22 AM »
I have done a search on this query with no results.
For the very first time i have received the following error message after bootup.
"AVAST MAIL SCANNER WARNING"
Avast will not be able to protect incoming mail (IMAP protocol) error10050.
Also same message for "POP3"
I have checked avast on-access scanner settings and everything seems normal.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks.

Error 10050 means WSAENETDOWN, i.e. 'A socket operation encountered a dead network. This could indicate a serious failure of the network system (that is, the protocol stack that the Windows Sockets DLL runs over), the network interface, or the local network itself. Bla, bla, bla (sorry)

Thanks TECHNICAL for quick response.
Thread (No 2)  did have some relevance to my problem.
As noted I checked on access scanner and all five providers are running ok.
I didn't use mail protection wizard, I rebooted twice with no warnings on each bootup. If it is of any relevance,
vps had recently been updated 29/10/04
file 0444-03.
One more occurence that is happening which may be relevant or not, Zone alarm has started asking for Avast setup exe to access the internet.

Maybe it's solved  8)

You should allow avast.setup to connect, otherwise, avast won't be updated.
Which is your operational system?
How do you connect the Internet? Dial-up or DSL?
Did you configure avast settings > Update (basic and advanced tabs) correctly?

Thanks again for your time, yes i am aware that avast. setup needs to connect it's just that the frequency seems to have increased.

No you're not. I comite a mistake changing the word 'Update' by 'Connections'.
Do you have an Update (Advanced) tab?  8)
I suppose everything is working now  8)

The update frequency could be increased these days as we're having program updates and not only VPS (virus database) ones.

Sorry to take up your time on this one.
No i dont appear to have update (Advanced Tab)
Everything seems ok, just a couple of anomalies >lose internet connection after vps update > Avast setup exe is really frequent, and sometimes asks twice in the same session. Obviously i'm doing something wrong with these darned quotes :-[
Wow a high of 29c today 8)

I'm stupid, not you.
I'm always trying to do everything by memory and I'm getting old and do not remember all things  :'(

The tabs are: Update (Basic) and Update (Connections).
