avast! is becoming better and better on 0-day protection
« on: July 01, 2012, 10:40:45 PM »
Well, it changes every day and nobody could live of past results.
But, for sure, we're seeing improvements on proactive detection each time.
We're now almost at the top of the list.

http://www.shadowserver.org/wiki/pmwiki.php/AV/VirusDailyStats 2nd place
http://www.shadowserver.org/wiki/pmwiki.php/AV/VirusWeeklyStats 4th place
http://www.shadowserver.org/wiki/pmwiki.php/AV/VirusMonthlyStats 8th place

For sure, hybrid cloud technology, autosandbox, the CommunityIQ and other factors seems to be collaborating with that results.

If we keep this position, the accumulated data will raise up the weekly and the monthly position.
Otherwise, we'll drop down.

This is a great link to pass onto our Gdata lover since it points out that avast! alone is better at detecting Zero Day infections.  ;D ;D ;D

Hi bob3160,

Isn't this just statistics at some moment in time? For me personally there are other issues that count for placing avast as my number 1 position,

This is great to see especially since we know that some things like the auto-sandbox and behavior shield are still works in progress and will be even better in the future. Things can only get better.

Just look at the longer duration stats http://www.shadowserver.org/wiki/pmwiki.php/AV/Virus180-DayStats as these are cumulative, these would give a better indication.

Obviously the longer you go back you are into avast6 also.

Thanks David. Seeing the day detection you can see ups and downs. The longer you take, the most stable are the results.
