Avast does not print at bottom of outgoing messages
« on: January 04, 2005, 05:18:19 PM »

I know Avast is checking my outgoing IncrediMail messages from reading the  properties  entries and by the fact that the Avast logo is moving across the IncrediMail logo in my tray as the message is sent. However,No entry is made on outgoing messages to the effect that Avas has checked the messages as apparently it should be doing. I have followed all the setting instructions without success. Can anyone offer any help. Also, where can I find the help file that will tell me how to make the required additions to have Avast protect another Mail Reader I prefer to I.Mail.

To see if avast! is scanning emails, check one of these points:

1) Is the avast icon (the special one of email scanning) be shown in the system tray?

2) Is your email header with the lines X-Antivirus: avast! (VPS 0XXX-X, XX/XX/2004), Inbound message and X-Antivirus-Status: Clean? (Right click the message, choose Properties and Details)

3) Are clean notes added at the bottom of the email? (Internet Mail provider settings)

You can test the security of your email system here: http://www.gfi.com/emailsecuritytest/

About the clean notes into the message body, can you try 'Settings' on my signature?
UseAlternateRtfSyncing value under [MailScanner] section:

Another mechanism for inserting notes into the body of emails in Microsoft Outlook. RtfSyncing is concerned with Rich Text Format. In emails, the user typically save both Rich text (HTML) and plain form of message. When you modify one type of message, RTFSync is the right function to synchronize text of message to the second form. Disable = 0.

See screenshot of settings here: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=2;action=display;threadid=9514

Also, where can I find the help file that will tell me how to make the required additions to have Avast protect another Mail Reader I prefer to I.Mail.
Thansk

Start avast antivirus > Right click the skin > Help > Setting up the Mail protection > Manual setting of mail protection
If you have Windows 98\Me, the change of the login settings is normal while using avast. See http://forum.avast.com/index.php?action=display;board=2;threadid=7913;start=0#msg64228

Both outgoing and incoming mail are under the Avast umbrella....the only thing missing is the notification at the bottom of the message....but what the heck, am not really concerned with this and have spent enough time trying to find the solution.

Re setting up protection for another mail reader, I tried clicking on the Avast icon followed by protection control but nowhere can I find a help file. Am I looking in the wrong place?

1. Right Click avast icon > Right Click avast icon >
2. Right Click avast icon > Start avast Antivirus > Menu > Help
3. Windows Start > All Programs > Avast Antivirus > Help
It's there, you only have to look.

David:

Thanks for the suggestion.....when one has, over the years ,made the progression from .dos2 to Windows ME you learn to be  very patient and keep on trying. With the advent of helpful forums such  as this however, spending untold hours trying to resolve  "setting problem"as I am doing, is to me but a waste of time ...better to take advantage of someone' else's knowledge of the problem . I gladly followed your directives and after accessing Menu and then help, a small screen popped up with Avast 4 in the upper left hand corner followed on the next line by three boxes reading, contents, search, display...followed by an insert box reading" avast.help.user interface" in blue.....
clicking enter did not generate any further screens. So once again I am stumped and not for lack of trying.  I hope you can tell me where I am going wrong!
