Quick Scan "URL: Mal" no helpful results
« on: July 09, 2012, 09:14:48 AM »
Hi,

I did a Quick Scan and two viruses were found. I went to the results page to look at the details...

File name: hXXp://athangrou.bee.pl/showthread.php?t=55152269
Severity: High
Status: Threat: URL:Mal

But when I change the "Action", the "Result" is always something that comes up with an error...
-Repair: "The system cannot find the file specified (2)"
-Move to Chest: "The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect."
-Delete: "Action is denied (5)"

I'm worried about the virus, but more worried about how to get rid of it if avast can't do anything. Any suggestions on what the issue is with the errors or how to fix the virus? Thank you!
PS: My computer screen has been twitching lately. It doesn't affect anything, but I notice it. I didn't think much of it, but could this be a symptom of a virus?

Next, since you can't put it into the Virus Chest, check your computer for malware with Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware (MBAM).
·   Download free http://www.malwarebytes.org/, click on Products, for an on-demand scanner.
·   Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
·   After install, click update so you have latest database before scanning.
·   Under Settings:
o   General: Automatically Save File After Scan Completes is checked off
o   Scanner SettingsCheck all boxes
o   Updater: Download and install update if available is checked off
·   Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
·   The scan may take some time to finish, so please be patient.
·   When the disinfection scan is complete, a log will appear in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Extra Note).
·   Click the “remove selected” button to quarantine anything found.  You will find the infection details under the Quarantine tab.
·   The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
·   Copy & Paste the entire report in your next reply.

Please change your link so no one can click on it in case it is malware...they can get it too.  Do this before you do your MBAM scan.

What files are that.....as what you have posted above is a URL block from avast....
So can you attach a screenshot of where you are trying to apply action on those files?

I followed the steps and did the scan. However, a log wasn't created. I restarted my computer and the two objects were transferred to the Quarantine tab. But they appear to be Adobe files, which seemingly have nothing to do with the two URLs I originally had issues with in Avast. Attached is the screen shot of the Quarantine tab, followed by the screen shot of the original Avast scan log.

Thank you for the help!

After restarting and running the Avast Quick Scan again, no threats were found! So I guess Malwarebytes did the trick, somehow. Still not sure what the files are that are Quarantined, but no issues seem to occur with Avast.

Thanks everyone!
