Avast Full Scan - Some Files Could Not Be Scanned
« on: July 19, 2012, 11:11:19 AM »
Ok so, it's just regular for me to find 2 files in this type of scan. Those are files that say like, "reached the end of the file", and are AirDisplay .DLL's. Now, I downloaded some games from Steam, and well…

Last scan over 300 password protected files popped up. All of them were inside a steamapps/common/______ folder, but I can't remember the name of the game.

Thing is, is this a virus? Or am I safe? I have my full scan settings set to scan for every minimum detail, maximum heuristics, scan all packages, etc… in order for my computer to have a full analysis.

Should I uninstall the game if this is a threat?

Everything from Steam should be ok. Make sure you don´t use hax.

files that can not be scanned are just that, does not mean they are infected
avast is just giving you a scan report and the reason why

many programs protect there files with passwords, usually security programs but many others also

search the forum and you should find a million threads started about this topic......i suggest avast add some info about this in the log one day

why.....do you know something the avast guys do not know?

there is a file shield running in the background 24/7 when the computer is on
every file that moves in the computer when used is scanned by the file shield

unless you have some special needs....i recomend default settings

Normal setting=faster scan less false positives
Highest setting=longer scan yet safer, if there´s detections, you can confirm on virustotal
Your full scan settings are better than default

if it was necessary to scan everything it would have been sett as default
the avast guys have been playing with malware 24/7 for 20 years or so, so they know what works

so you can trust the default setting.....
they also release changes to the scan engine (in the virus defs) when they see a need to do so

Yeah, the game is totally legit. It's "Superbrothers: Swords and Sorcery EP".

@Pondus: Well, I kind of became malware paranoid after I managed to slow down and mess up my system. Had to reinstall Windows within the third day I got the new laptop. Eh, since then, I run Avast scans at maximum settings each 2-4 days. I assume it was caused by fear of getting one of those odd firmware rootkits… :(

well if not stopped by the shields.....and you find it with a scan, then it is already in there and  you probably need essexboy to get it out again
