Avast resident protection so fast?!?

today i change the setting of my resident protection
i use a pro version

i let avast scans these files "COM,EXE,DLL,SYS,SCR,OV?,VXD,386,BIN,BAT,CMD,DO?,XL?, PP?,HT*,HLP,CH?,{*},ASP,CLA*,CPL,CSS,INF,JS*,LNK,MS?,OCX,PDF,PIF,PO?, PRC,RTF,SHS,VB?,VSD,WS?,SWF,AD?,ASX,BAS,CRT,INS,ISP, MDB,MDE,PCD,PRF,REG,SCF,SCT,SHB,URL,EML,NWS"

and after i let avast scans every files *..

but it's incredible, avast is so fast , it did not slowdown my slow machine a P3 500 256 mb of ram

VLK , how can avast be so fast? i notice avast resident shield is more fast then nod32!

Well, it certainly depends on what you are doing; if you're running some apps opening a big number of files, you may notice a slowdown... but otherwise, I don't think we have any detailed "benchmarks".

but the resident protection & on deman scanner have the same engine?

Both resident scanner and on demand scanner use only the one engine which is in user mode. As Igor noticed, I think we don't have any detailed benchmarks of other antivirus products and we aren't going to do that. We still improve r-scanner's features to bring you the faster driver .
