Check you system date?

What avast! version (latest 4.5.561) and VPS file (virus database) number, e.g. 0501-1 (see about avast!)

aaron,

I am not sure if Windows XP2 is set up to read Avast information, however, if you right click on the A ball, and go into About Avast......
You should see the laters version of Program and Update.
If they are current, then I would not worry about the message.

and the VPS is 0501-1 not 0505-1
 ;)

SP2 is reading the info from Avast without any problem. If it reports "av not up to date" than there is something wrong. Most likely the vps isn't up to date.

Does anybody know how to tweak this Windows feature?
I mean, I want to 'configure' how long it must be consider an 'old' virus database date...
In off-line computers, we don't have to update that ofter (less than a week)... It's boring...

Basicly what happens is as follows:

Security center checks the installed version of the vps with the one on the Alwil server.
If the version on the server is newer than the one installed it will report "out of date".

As you know, Alwil is "spreading"  the updates to reduce server load.
So if there is nothing wrong with the system or installed applications and you get this message, invoke a manual update to get the latest vps and the message will disapear.

If you have already the latest vps and everything else seems to be alright, and you still get this message... Than there is something wrong with your system/installed application(s).

I don't think it works this way (Security center checking our servers)... either it asks avast! about the date of the database and compares it with current date, or it even just asks avast! if it's up-to-date or not - and then displays the result (I really don't know which one of the possibilities it true). Vlk would be able to say more.

As you know, Alwil is "spreading"  the updates to reduce server load.

Just wanted to note, that virus database (VPS) updates are delivered as fast as possible (normal check is every 4 hours). Only program updates are distributed over longer period of time (up to one week) to reduce the servers load.
