repetitive Win32 virus popup
« on: August 02, 2012, 11:56:19 AM »
Hi, I keep receiving many popups saying that there is a certain virus that keeps trying to attack the same file on my computer. It occurs in 3 or 4's every couple of minutes and attacks the C:\Windows\Installer with file names such as 80000032, 80000064, 80000000. I am only 16 and so I'm not very knowledgeable about this situation, clear and easy instructions would be greatly appreciated, Thanks.

Additionally I am following the log steps to try and produce the logs for you, I have the MBAM logs however The OTL scan does not work as during the scan it reaches a point in the scan when its is scanning FireFox settings and then the OTL program says "Not responding"

EDIT:Fixed the "Not responding", Continuing to get the logs.

Here are the four logs (Part 1 - due to maximum file size)

Step1

Re-run OTL.exe.

  • Copy and paste the following text written inside of the quote box into the Custom Scans/Fixes box.

Code: [Select]
:files
C:\Windows\assembly\GAC_32\Desktop.ini
C:\Windows\assembly\GAC_64\Desktop.ini
C:\Windows\Installer\{b9d56f54-71f8-7975-9bef-7f21e804ba09}
C:\Users\Jamie\AppData\Local\{b9d56f54-71f8-7975-9bef-7f21e804ba09}

:commands
[CREATERESTOREPOINT]
[emptytemp]
  • Then click the Run Fix button at the top.
  • Let the program run unhindered; it will reboot the system when it is done and open notepad with logreport. Attach here that logreport.
*********************************

Step2

> Download ComboFix from here and save it to your Desktop.
If you are unsure how ComboFix works please read this guide carefully.
note: ComboFix must be downloaded to your Desktop.

> Temporarily disable your AntiVirus program.
If you are unsure how to do this please read this Instruction.

> Run ComboFix. Click on I Agree!
ComboFix will check if there is a newer version of ComboFix available.
Click Yes if prompted to download.

ComboFix will display DISCLAIMER OF WARRANTY ON SOFTWARE.
Click Yes to allow ComboFix to continue.

If Recovery Console is not installed, ComboFix will offer download & installation.
Click Yes to allow ComboFix to install Recovery Console.
Note:Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running.

> When the tool is finished, it will produce a log report for you. (typical location: C:\ComboFix.txt )
  Attach log reports ( ComboFix.txt) back to topic.

I'm having an issue with the first part, OTL freezes and says "Not responding" as soon as I click run fix, any suggestions?

Try one more time. Disable malwarebytes if is active and repet OTLFix. Wait for the programme completes his work.
Live OTL to work even 20 minutes if necessaty, and OTL will complete its work
You are infected with a powerful  ZeroAcess rootkit and our tools sometimes have trouble starting because rootkit does not allow them to run.

If you still have problems running the OTL, then we do it the other way.  ;)

It is still not working, as soon as i press run fix it begins to not respond and a window comes up saying "your system has had a critical error and needs to restart, system will log of automatically in one minute, save your work" nothing happens though and eventually i have to turn off my computer manually by holding down the off button and then boot it back up.

Oh I got it working  :) never mind, I'll continue with the process
Also do I need to save the OTL logs in ANSI encoding or just leave it how it is?

Ok, skip OTL step.

Run this one:
  • Please download BlitzBlank by emsisoft and save it to your desktop.

  • Open Blitzblank.exe by double click on it.

  • Click OK at the warning (and take note of it, this is a VERY powerful tool!).

  • Click the Script tab and copy/paste the following text there:

Code: [Select]

DeleteFile:
C:\Windows\assembly\GAC_32\Desktop.ini
C:\Windows\assembly\GAC_64\Desktop.ini
DeleteFolder:
C:\Windows\Installer\{b9d56f54-71f8-7975-9bef-7f21e804ba09}
C:\Users\Jamie\AppData\Local\{b9d56f54-71f8-7975-9bef-7f21e804ba09}
  • Click Execute Now. Your computer will need to reboot in order to replace the files.
  • When done, post me the report created by Blitzblank. you can find it at the root of the drive C:\

*********************

>> Then follow Step2 and Run COmbofix. If you faild to run Combofix,the run Combofix in safe mode.
