00000008.@, services.exe, and desktop.ini infections
« on: August 05, 2012, 11:06:21 PM »
I've ran Avast! And MBAM before coming here with no success. I've tried running OTL multiple times, but each time it would crash when scanning Chrome settings, so unfortunately do not have any logs for that. I've included the other two requested logs below though. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Looking at that you have the double whammy.. I will go direct to the fix..  But once complete could you try OTL again

Download the latest version of TDSSKiller from here and save it to your Desktop.

  • Doubleclick on TDSSKiller.exe to run the application

  • Then click on Change parameters.

  • Check the boxes beside Verify Driver Digital Signature and Detect TDLFS file system, then click OK.

  • Click the Start Scan button.

  • If a suspicious object is detected, the default action will be Skip, click on Continue.

  • If malicious objects are found, they will show in the Scan results and offer three (3) options.
  • Ensure Cure is selected, then click Continue => Reboot now to finish the cleaning process.

  • Get the report by selecting Reports

  • Note: If Cure is not available, please choose Skip instead, do not choose Delete unless instructed.
Please copy and paste its contents on your next reply.

THEN

Download and Install Combofix

Download ComboFix from one of the following locations:
Link 1
Link 2

VERY IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

* IMPORTANT - Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. If you have difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, refer to this link here
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • Accept the disclaimer and allow to update if it asks

  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you.
  • Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.[/b]
Notes:
1. Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
2. Do not "re-run" Combofix. If you have a problem, reply back for further instructions.

3.  If after the reboot you get errors about programmes being marked for deletion then reboot, that will cure it.

Please make sure you include the combo fix log in your next reply as well as describe how your computer is running now

I've re-ran MBAM and got a fresh log, attached, not copy and pasted here for you. Then ran TDSSkiller, log also attached. After it restarted I ran ComboFix, which seemed to finish successfully, but did not produce a log. I've checked C:/ directly for it, which is where I found the TDSSkiller log, as well as C:/Combofix, which did not contain any txt files or anything else that looked like a log. Tried running OTL in safe mode with no luck, but instead of freezing on Chrome Settings as it was previously, it would crash and give me a blank black screen (whole screen, not just the window) once it got to Chrome Settings forcing me to restart the computer manually with the power button. Same problems as before, periodically it will de-select whatever window I'm in. In this instance it's just causing me to have to re-click to begin typing again, but when a fullscreen application is running it will either show the desktop (for games for instance) or will revert to window mode (for movies [vlc] for instance)

OK one of the bad boys is dead so lets see what remains

  • Download RogueKiller  and save it on your desktop
  • Quit all programs
  • Start RogueKiller.exe.
  • Wait until Prescan has finished ...
  •     Click on Scan

  • Wait for the end of the scan.
  • The report has been created on the desktop.
  • Click on the Delete button.

  • The report has been created on the desktop.
  • Next click on the ShortcutsFix

  • The report has been created on the desktop.
Please post:    All RKreport.txt text files located on your desktop.

I've ran RK, Requested logs are included. The program also created a folder on my desktop "RK Quarantine" I've included a screenshot of what's included in that folder.

Could you reboot your computer and press F8 immediately and hold
When the safe mode menu appears do you have the option for "Repair my Computer"

If not do you have a USB drive of 4Gb and access to another computer to download programmes onto

Last time I've restarted with F8 there was an option for "Repair my Computer". I'm assuming that's the next step, going ahead and doing that now. I'll report back with any new information.

  • Download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool x64 and save it to a flash drive.

Reboot to the safe mode menu

    Click repair my computer

    Select your operating system

    Select Command prompt

    Insert the Flash drive

At the command prompt type the following  :

    notepad and press Enter.
The notepad opens. Under File menu select Open.
Select "Computer" and find your flash drive letter and close the notepad.
In the command window type e:\frst64.exe and press Enter
Note: Replace letter e with the drive letter of your flash drive.
The tool will start to run.
When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
    Press Scan button.
It will make a log (FRST.txt) on the flash drive.

    THEN

    Still within FRST
Type the following into the search box

    services.exe

    Then click search
A log search.txt will be located on the flash drive

Please copy and paste both logs in your next reply.

I don't currently have access to a jump drive. I tried using my phone but it wouldn't load it as a drive in repair mode. I'll get back to you when I have access to a jump drive.

Download the attached fixlist.txt to the same USB drive as FRST
Restart the computer as before to the recovery console
Run FRST and click Fix

A log will be generated on the USB drive

Reboot to normal windows

Once there then please run combofix and post the logs along with the FRST fix log
