espeak / colexity trojan?
« on: August 06, 2012, 05:50:19 AM »
I ran Malwarebytes Anti-Malware a few times. The first couple it seemed to remove stuff but there are still a couple entries (I've attached the log file).

While I was running the OTL scan a message of "List index out of bounds (23)" was displayed. The status at the bottom said "Application Event Log record 3653" for over 30 minutes and it didn't give me both log files. aswMBR's file is also attached.

Avast's messages:
URL:   hxxp://37.220.36.44/x/
Process:   \\.\globalroot\systemroot\svchost.exe
Infection:   URL:Mal

URL:   hxxp://espeak911.com/x/
Process:   \\.\globalroot\systemroot\svchost.exe
Infection:   URL:Mal

URL:   hxxp://colexity777.com/x/
Process:   \\.\globalroot\systemroot\svchost.exe
Infection:   URL:Mal

What does this trojan do other than shut my computer down? Does it read data files? Key logger?

Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I hadn't tried to start up a web browser since my first post until just now. When I did, my computer blue screened. I have reinstalled Avast and MBAM (I think my computer uninstalled them when it recovered from one of the crashes). Avast is sending me lots of those popup messages and here is MBAM's log file.

  • Please download BlitzBlank by emsisoft and save it to your desktop.

  • Open Blitzblank.exe by double click on it.

  • Click OK at the warning (and take note of it, this is a VERY powerful tool!).

  • Click the Script tab and copy/paste the following text there:

Code: [Select]

DeleteFile:
C:\Windows\svchost.exe

  • Click Execute Now. Your computer will need to reboot in order to replace the files.
  • When done, post me the report created by Blitzblank. you can find it at the root of the drive C:\

My computer blue screened in the middle of running Combofix but here is the other log. Should I try to re run combofix again?

Should I try to re run combofix again?
No need, we will try that later. Please do the following:

Download TDSSKiller  and save it to your desktop

Execute TDSSKiller.exe by doubleclicking on it.

  •     Press Start Scan

  •   If Suspicious object is detected, the default action will be Skip, click on Continue.

  •   If Malicious objects are found, select Cure.
Once complete, a log will be produced at the root drive which is typically C:\ ,for example, C:\TDSSKiller.<version_date_time>log.txt

Please attach the contents of that log in your next reply.

************************

Download DDS and save it to your Desktop from here:
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/dds.scr

Double click dds to run the tool.

    * When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
        1. DDS.txt
        2. Attach.txt

Save both reports to your desktop. DDS.txt and Attach.txt attach back to topic.

MBAM wants to quarantine the SVChost.exe process. Should I go ahead and do that?

    First things first.  :)
You where seriously infected by rootkit ( TDL4 ), thats why this is cleaning is taking a wile...
Do not worry, I see the problem, we'll remove it one way or another  ;)

    ----------------------------

    Step1

    • Re-run TDSSKiller.exe and click on Change parametres.
    • Under Additional options check the boxes next to Verify Driver Digital Signature and Detect TDLFS file system, then click OK
    • Click on Start Scan.
    • If an infected file is detected, the default action will be Cure, click on
    • If a suspicious file is detected, the default action will be Skip, click on Continue.
    • It may ask you to reboot the computer to complete the process. Click on Reboot Now.
    • Click the Report button and copy/paste the contents of it into your next reply
Note:It will also create a log in the C:\ directory.

    *************************

    Step2

Re-run Malwarebytes ,select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
    • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
    • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
    • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Extra Note)
    • Please save the log to a location you will remember ( desktop for example ).
    • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
    • Copy and paste the entire report in your next reply.
    Extra Note:

If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.
Do not worry, I  see the problem, we'll remove it one way or another  ;)

      Step1

      Multiple Antivirus Programs

You are running more than 1 Antivirus program!

      AV: avast! Antivirus *Disabled/Updated* {2B2D1395-420B-D5C9-657E-930FE358FC3C}
      AV: Trend Micro Titanium Internet Security *Disabled/Updated* {68F968AC-2AA0-091D-848C-803E83E35902}
Running - more than one - antivirus program is not recommended because:[list=1]
      • They can conflict with each other.
      • Report the other antivirus software as malicious.
      • Antivirus programs use an enormous amount of computer's resources... actively scanning your computer.
      • Can cause your computer to become unstable...run slowly and even, in rare cases, BSOD crash...etc
I strongly suggest you uninstall one of them.  Which one, is your decision.
      ----------------------------

      Step2
      >> Download AppRemover   (~ 6MB) on Desktop .
      Run it by double-clicking

Click Next, choose the second option (Clean Up a Failed Uninstall), confirm with Continue, go to Next, wait to scanning be finished, choose uninstalled Antivurs, and remove leftovers it by clicking on the Next .

      Step3
      Re-run TDSSKiller as before.
Select from Skip to Delete aktion for this line:

      17:41:42.0404 1932   \Device\Harddisk0\DR0 ( TDSS File System ) - skipped by user
      17:41:42.0419 1932   \Device\Harddisk0\DR0 ( TDSS File System ) - User select action: Skip

      Step4

      >> Re-run DDS and attach here fresh DDS.txt log.
