Removing Malware: Stuck on the Final Step.
« on: August 21, 2012, 01:12:20 AM »
I've been walked through on how to remove the virus that was infecting my computer but I'm stuck on the final step.
I was told by someone here to download this: https://www.dropbox.com/s/z4okz2emva35hwg/BITS7.reg?m
I was told to run the program, however all I get from the link is a BITS7.reg file. I don't know how the message system works for moderators regarding if you're alerted to posts. My concern was that my posts were no longer being tracked as it was assumed my problem was resolved. I'd like to get this over and done with ASAP. Please help.

It was magna86 and the logical place to have posted this is in your topic. http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=103230.0

Topics remain open they aren't closed as such, so you can continue there keeping all information in the same place, not to mention it bumps that topic to the top of the chronological order and brings it to the attention of those who were helping you.

Clicking the link given by magna86 should have taken you to dropbox, clicking the Download button would download bits7.reg to your system.

So now you have download the bits7.reg file, then right click on the bits7.reg file and select Merge (see image), this should then merge these registry settings into your registry.

I you have any further problems (with windows 7 UAC, etc.) in trying to merge this, please address it in your other topic, so that those who are helping get to see it. It is now close to 1am here and I'm calling it a night.

It isn't an issue for downloading from a dropbox link given, as the user doesn't have to logon or anything like that or even have a dropbox account to download the file.
