When I run scan, avast shuts down my computer,
« on: January 15, 2005, 09:42:49 AM »
Hello All,
I have a problem with my avast pro edition, I appreciate if someone could tell me how to fix this problem.
Every time I scan a file with avast my computer shuts down itself and restart without any error message.
I uninstalled and reinstalled avast but the problem persists,
Please let me know how to solve this problem.
Many thanks.

hi and welcome aba
can you give me some general info of your system ?
What O/S ?
How long have you had Avast!?
Has it ever completed a scan?
Did you install the program using Admin Account?
this should help us track your problem down

Info about my system:
Win 2000
I have been using avast for two years,
In the past many times it completed the scan, but recently when avast starts scanning; it shuts down after a few seconds of scan.
Never had this problem before,
I have Sygate firewall.
I installed the program using admin account,
And one more thing, within past two weeks the only software I installed was Microsoft Anti spyware, which soon afterwards I uninstalled it because I thought it might have some thing to do with the avast malfunction.

Many thanks for your reply.

Probably the short simple fixes should be first to try so if you have never tried it before go control panel/ add remove programs / Avast! / hitting the remove button should give you the option to repair  as well. do this and see if it works.

It seems like a "bluescreen" with automatic restart... could it be the case?
Do you have any minidumps in windows folder?

Yes it is a very short bluescreen then automatic restart, but I do not know what you mean by "minidumps" in windows folder.
What is minidump?
Should I delete the minidump folder?

Yes it is a very short bluescreen then automatic restart

Can you disable it? I mean, the automatic restart?
Control Panel > System > Advanced > Startup and Restoring > Automatic restart (disable it).
Then, with the blue screen, copy the error message.

but I do not know what you mean by "minidumps" in windows folder. What is minidump? Should I delete the minidump folder?

Do you have any file into C:\Windows\Minidump folder?
Can you zip it and send to Igor?

I disabled automatic reboot, and this is what I captured from the bluescreen:

** stop: 0x0000001E (0xc0000005,0xF0721703, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
** address F0721703 base at F0720000, data setup 409f405c - windrvNT.sys
Beginnig dump of physical memory
Physical memory dump completed.
Contact your system administration or technical group.

Also I was going to send the minidump file to Igor, but his Email address is not listed.
Please let me know where to send the minidump file.

Thanks.

Send the minidump to Vlk. Don't forget to mention that you did it because of the problem explained in this thread.

His problem Eddy is, Vlk's email address is no longer on his profile, so he doesn't know where to send it.
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.3.6108 (build 24.3.8975.762) UI 1.0.801/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

0x0000001E (0xc0000005, 0xF0721703, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

If you Google the parts of this error code, you'll find more information.
Generally:
0x0000001E: KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
The Windows kernel detected an illegal or unknown processor instruction. A Stop 0x1E condition can be caused by invalid memory and access violations. In your case, by windrvNT.sys driver.
Possible Resolutions to STOP 0x0A, 0x01E, and 0x50 Errors: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=183169&sd=RMVP

Hope this helps. Sorry, I mess Igor with Vlk  :-[
