I am trying to get my IRC client to scan files after they are downloaded.  mIRC has the functionality of doing this built in, but I need to know the file name and syntax to make Avast an indifidual file.  Any suggestions?

ashQuick.exe is your choice.

What exactly did you set in mIRC and what was the filename you were trying to scan?

I used the mIRC function shown in this pic.
The filename is variable.  I want to scan every downloaded file.  Mabye I need a wildcard in there.

Well, to me it looks like you are scanning a file that has a space in the path/filename, and the filename is not enclosed it quotes when passed to ashQuick. Are there any options on how mIRC will pass the filename to the selected program? Or you probably could use the "Command" box below...

How about setting the "command" to perform to
C:\Program Files\Avast4\ashQuick.exe "$1-"
(instead of setting the "application to open")?

Thank Both of You for taking an interest in my little experiment.
Yesterday I tried the "perform this Command" feature and used a variety of variables: "$1-"  "$1"  $1  $1-  #1.  Still no luck.  Avast does not even respond to this call, whereas the previous technique was able to activate Avast, but did not complete the task.  I have put in a request with help@mIRC.org.  Perhaps they can shed some light on this mysterious mIRC functionality.  If I learn anything significant I will post it.  Thanks. b0n3 out.

FYI avast 4.1 (due early next week) directly supports (besides many other things) mIRC so you won't have to set up anything...

Really?  Do tell more.  Doe you mean that the new Avast will natively monitor the comings and goings of DCC transfers?

Well no, it doesn't go that deep (which is imho completely unncesessary, anyway) to hook DCC or any other wire stuff. The trick is that it just monitors the mIRC (and other) apps so that it makes sure that all files are immediately scanned when the transfer is complete.

The problem with network hooks is that they usually suffer from huge incompatibility problems -- and we don't want to go this way...
