Locate uses GPS for a long time

When I use locate once from the portal, it takes forever to return a result even on wifi. If I check the battery stats, it shows that it's been awake for 2.5 mins and using GPS the whole time. Is this normal?

yes, the timeout for normal tracking is 3 mins this means it tries to get the best possible tracking within 3 mins and then returns back.
