avastUI.exe uses 50% CPU constantly

Running XP 2002 SP3

Pentium 4 2.99 GHz

3.0 GB RAM

Since updating avastui.exe runs about 50% of CPU. Have tried uninstall/reinstall using avast uninstaller.

Any help appreciated,

Malwarebytes & Spybot S&D are on the computer but neither have active shields. I do have spamhilator.exe as a spamfilter for outlook.

When I uninstalled Avast I noticed that spamhilator.exe started doing the same thing.

The computer also has a Netnanny installation on it.

I am having my customers stay with 7.0.1466 until further notice.  It is interesting though, why would the Spam Filter act that way.  Really an anamoly in behavior.  J.R.

If it were me I would try removing all the other security you have there and see how avast behaves, then install one at a time until you start recieving the high cpu usage again to pinpoint the problem.

I went ahead and found/installed v. 7.0.1466 and the problem is solved for now. Interestingly Spamhilator is no longer acting up now either.

avastui.exe is back to it's old tricks, even with the older version. I wonder if I can use my routers firewall to block it and if so how.....

Craig,

I uninstalled spybot which was not a resident and Malabytes is not a resident security program on my machine either....I just scan with it from time to time. So those shouldn't have a conflict with Avast.

Hate to go away from Avast but this seems to be a unique problem as I've not found others who have the same issues happening.

Looking like Netnanny was the culprit. We have a family and need the netnanny so I'll have to find a way to get these programs to work together.....

I never used netnanny.
If everything fails, yuo can try K9 Web Protection.

You do not need any type of software running to have parental controls. Just use Norton DNS. Its that easy.

Do you really think they manage "all" things? I mean, their database is not "that" good and, in fact, you can go very far even with a DNS tool installed...
