trojan in c\windows\ system.........help!
« on: February 06, 2005, 10:33:49 PM »
hi everyone,
i did a virus scan earlier using avast, and it found 14 (!!!) viruses.
i put all in to the chest, bar one as it says that access is denied into the file.
i can not get in to the file through desktop either.

The virus is called    win32:zins

The file its in is         c\windows\system\webchk.dll\logon.exe

Does anyone know how to deal with this?
thanks!!

i have windows 98.
ive read the link, but havent tried the info out yet.
as i said, i cant get in to the file at all. The icon for it on desktop is a computer screen, not a yellow folder icon. I have no idea what this means! but im sure you do!
Is there any way of finding out what this virus is? what it does? and where it came from? I spose those things are only possible if i can get to it......
 x x

The icon on the desktop is likely to be a shortcut, you already have the path (that you gave above) to show where it is in explorer. However, you don't have to go looking for it, you can boot win98 into safe mode (usually pressing F8 key at start-up), but see win98 help for more info.

This only loads essential windows elements and it won't be pretty 800x600 and 16 color as it is not loading drivers, etc. Once into windows, run avast scan, you may need to use the start programs to start avast then run the scan.
